The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is in a fix over staging the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in India. for this, they will have to prepone the tournament due to the clash of dates with the ICC World Cup next year and there are reports that it will kick off on March 29. But the board is fretting over the possible dates of the General Elections in the country. However, there are the chances that the cash-rich T20 league will be organised out of India as there will be security issues due to elections in India.

The craze among the fans about the IPL is unmatched and the revenue generated through the same is huge. The recently concluded season was one of the best in the history of the tournament and no wonder the stakeholders want India to host the league next year as well. In 2009, the second edition of the IPL was held in South Africa and in 2014, the first phase was played in the United Arab Emirates due to the elections.

There’s a lot at stake

According to News Daily, the sources have confirmed that the stakeholders are in favour of India hosting the IPL amidst the clash of dates with the elections. But the BCCI is waiting with bated breath for the decision as reportedly,  the Central Government is mulling over holding the elections by the end of the year 2018.

“The IPL – under the new set of contracts and revenue models – is going to be a billion-dollar entity every season. There’s a lot at stake for many who are committed to the league. Moreover, there’s absolute unanimity among stakeholders that as much as possible, they’d like the league to be played in India, not abroad,” the source was quoted as saying by News Daily.

As of now, nothing is confirmed though and there are chances that the marquee T20 league might have to find other hosts next year.
