Two robust camps– Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals– locked horns with each other in Match 19th of the IPL 2020 at Dubai International Stadium. Both sides, after putting up an impressive show in their first four games, were vying for a victory to climb up to the top of the points table.

It was a clash between two prolific skippers and batsmen– Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer– who have been in stellar form lately. But in the end, it was Iyer’s men who emerged victorious and paved their way up to the top. After amassing a dominant 196-run total on the board, DC restricted RCB to 137 and registered a comfortable 59-run victory.

Kohli, after winning the toss, put DC to bat first and the moored pair of Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan marched their way into the middle. The duo didn’t disappoint as DC registered an opening stand of 68 runs. While Shaw scored an explosive 23-ball 42, Dhawan gathered 32 off 28 deliveries.

After the departure of the opening pair, all eyes were on skipper Iyer to replicate his last match’s heroics. He had slammed a blistering 88 against Kolkata Knight Riders in the last match. However, Iyer registered a rare failure and made his way back to the pavilion after scoring just 11.

Virat Kohli tried to save RCB’s sinking ship by stitching 43 off 39

Considering DC’s batting depth, fans were still hopeful of witnessing some late fireworks. And that’s what happened when Marcus Stoinis’ put his foot on the accelerator in death overs. The Australian all-rounder smoked a quick-fire 53 off 26 deliveries. Before Stoinis, Rishabh Pant also made a vital contribution by scoring a 25-ball 37. Capitals ultimately managed to put up a 196-run total on the scoreboard.

In response, RCB’s run-chase was dented by the collapse of their top-order force. Devdutt Padikkal, Aaron Finch and AB de Villiers were shown the exit door in the Powerplay itself and RCB was left reeling on 43/3 by the end of first six overs. It was one-way traffic as no other RCB batsman apart from Kohli was able to stick in the middle.

Kohli, leading his side from the front, stitched 43 off 39 balls. However, after his departure, the possibility of RCB clinching the encounter came down to nil. Capitals’ bowling unit flaunted an impressive performance to grab two vital points and go up to the top of the points table.

Kagiso Rabada emerged as the most successful DC bowler after plucking four wickets in his four overs. The match also rolled out two hilarious incidents– Kohli accidentally almost applying saliva on the ball and Ravi Ashwin giving Aaron Finch a ‘Mankad’ scare.
