Things are just not falling into place for Chennai Super Kings in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Even before the tournament started, they suffered several setbacks with members of their contingent testing positive for coronavirus and senior players pulling out of the tournament. And their performance on the field has been even worse.

The Chennai-based outfit is looking set to exit the tournament at the league stage for the first time in the history of the competition. On Friday, they suffered yet another heavy defeat at the hands of Mumbai Indians. It was their eighth defeat in the ongoing competition. With just three wins from eleven games, the MS Dhoni-led side is presently languishing at the bottom of the points table.

It was a disastrous show from the CSK batsmen as they managed just 114 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Barring Sam Curran, who scored 52, none of the other batsmen managed to put up a fight with the bat. Trent Boult was the destructor-in-chief with the ball, taking 4 for just 18 off his four overs.

CSK bowlers could not do much either as Mumbai Indians chased down the total inside 13 overs without losing any wicket. Ishan Kishan led the charge with the bat and slammed an unbeaten 68 from just 37 deliveries. The southpaw shared an unbeaten stand of 116 runs with Quinton de Kock to take Mumbai home with ease.

CSK troll themselves:

While CSK batsmen were falling like a pack of cards on the field, the franchise decided to have some fun at Virat Kohli-led RCB on social media. The franchise reacted hilariously to the team’s top-order collapse against Mumbai Indians. At one stage, CSK were reeling at 3 for 4 and then 21 for 5. Even the 50-run mark was looking tough at that moment.

But as soon as the side crossed the 49-run mark, which is the lowest total in the history (posted by RCB) of the competition, the franchise took to Twitter to react hilariously to it. Expressing its delight over averting the ’49 fiasco’, CSK tweeted, “At least, the 49 fiasco was averted”.
