South African fast bowler Anrich Nortje has been breathing fire in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He came in as Chris Wokaes’ replacement for the Delhi Capitals (DC) and has been ruffling feathers along with his national teammate, Kagiso Rabada. In eight matches, Nortje has 10 wickets to his name at an impressive economy and strike-rate of 7.34 and 19.2 respectively.
Moreover, he has been bowling at venomous speeds, threatening to touch even the 160 kph mark. During the Capitals’ match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Wednesday, October 14 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, he clocked over the 150 kph mark on quite a few instances. The 26-year-old’s top speed read as high as 156.22 kph as he made life difficult for the batters.

He cleaned up Jos Buttler at a stage when the latter was looking ominous, scoring 22 runs with three fours and a six at a strike-rate around 300. In the meantime, the Capitals were engaged in a hilarious banter with the Royals on social media.
Earlier, RR dropped a tweet, asking if any bowler can surpass Jofra Archer’s numbers in the speedometre. The Royals took to Twitter and wrote, “Reply with a bowler that’s been faster than Jofra this season!”

As far as the game was concerned, DC, courtesy of some stupendous bowling at the death, came out trumps by 13 runs. In their 20 overs, Shreyas Iyer and Co notched 161 for the loss of seven wickets. Shikhar Dhawan and skipper Iyer scored 57 and 53 runs to help DC garner the decent score on board.
During the run-chase, Ben Stokes and Buttler scored 37 runs in the first three overs, taking RR to a blistering start. Sanju Samson and Robin Uthappa racked up 25 and 32 runs respectively, but couldn’t take their team over the line. Debutant Tushar Deshpande was impressive, to say the least.
