One of the most experienced campaigners in the IPL, Delhi Capitals’ Amit Mishra is doubtful to start in their today’s game against Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore. Mishra’s absence is expected to be a big blow for DC, especially after his impressive performance at Sharjah against Kolkata Knight Riders.

At a stadium where batsmen wreak havoc on bowlers due to short boundaries, Mishra was almost unplayable at Sharjah on Saturday. But in his very first over against KKR, the 37-year-old hurt his bowling finger in an effort to grab a return catch from Nitish Rana’s willow.

In a diving effort to pluck Rana’s catch, Mishra ended up injuring himself. He, however, continued to bowl in that game and also plucked the wicket of a dangerous-looking Shubman Gill in his very next over. But Mishra’s injured finger kept bothering him and the physio also had to walk in with the magic spray to assess the situation.

Mishra did not bowl any further in the match but DC nonetheless pocketed the match by 18 runs. Capitals’ skipper Shreyas Iyer also rued Mishra’s injury in the post-match presentation.

Team would definitely won’t risk Amit Mishra: DC official

“Unfortunate to lose Mishra in the middle when he was spinning the ball really well. We were confident we had two good overs left, but anything could happen,” said Iyer, who hogged the limelight by his blistering 88-run knock in the first innings.

Vying for their fourth victory of IPL 2020, Delhi will now face an in-form RCB side but Mishra remains a doubtful starter for the game. A DC official revealed that scans were conducted on his finger on Sunday and Mishra is doubtful for Monday’s game but reports are awaited.

“He hurt his bowling finger and scans have been done to gauge the extent of the injury. The reports are to come in, but he is doubtful for today’s game against RCB. Obviously, a blow as he has been in good rhythm, but considering how he has been bowling, the team would definitely want to not risk him,” the official said as quoted by The New Indian Express.
