The Indian Premier Indian Premier League (IPL) auction is just around the corner and the buzz has already started to set in. There will be plenty of cricketers who will be auctioned. There are 73 slots to be filled, including 29 overseas players. It is scheduled to take place in Kolkata, also known as the City of Joy, on December 19.

In 2019, there were a lot of overseas cricketers who opted out of the IPL auction in order to prepare for the World Cup. Most of those were fast bowlers who wanted to manage their workloads. However, this year, most of the top fast bowlers are expected to be back in the auction pool. There are also teams that are looking for top-quality overseas pacers as well.

There’s absolutely no doubt that Mitchell Starc is going to be one of the biggest attractions in the upcoming IPL auction. The Australian fast bowler has missed the Indian T20 league for four years in a row now. He has played just two seasons – 2014 and 2015. Since then, he’s largely been out due to some injury or the other.

The last time, his name went under the hammer, Starc got a stunning INR 9.4 crore as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) scalped him. But that was in 2018. He missed that season due to injury and with the World Cup and the Ashes in 2019, he gave this one a skip as well.

However, he looks all set to enter the auction this time around. Moreover, Starc is back playing white-ball cricket consistently. The left-arm quick is destructive and can pick wickets at will. Thus, he will be one of the overseas fast bowlers who can start a bidding war in the upcoming IPL auction.
