The 22nd match of the Indian Premier League saw action between Kings XI Punjab and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Both stepped up the field in the dire need to collect two points in their bag. Batting first, SRH looked unstoppable at a moment when Jonny Bairstow and David Warner were on the crease and crushed KXIP by big 69 runs. They posted a huge 201 on the board, courtesy, Bairstow (97 off 55), and Warner’s (52 off 40) thunder.

Jonny Bairstow was named as the player of the match for his terrific innings. Young star Ravi Bishnoi came as a blessing for Punjab and stopped SRH’s run flow as he dismissed both the dangerous men, Bairstow and Warner in 16th over. He picked three wickets in total. Arshdeep Singh picked two wickets for the Punjab team.

Rashid Khan stole the bowling show from SRH again

Hunting down the hefty target, the opening order of Punjab collapsed as Mayank Agarwal, and KL Rahul went in no time. Nicholas Pooran’s 77 off 37 was the only help for Punjab from the batting section as he smashed the fastest fifty of the season. Rashid Khan again cast his magical spell and picked three wickets by conceding just 12 runs in four overs. Khaleed Ahmed also named two scalps to his name from SRH’s end.

Winning skipper, David Warner said

I was a bit nervous while Nicholas was hitting it over the stands. I have always had high prospects. I was fortunate to play in Bangladesh with him. You always think, ‘What can I do?’. He’s (Rashid) a world-class bowler, it’s great to have him. He always delivers in pressure situations. What a player. Sad for Bhuvi, but having one of our best death bowlers out of the team gives an opportunity for others. We love batting with each other. At the moment, I am just rotating strike for him. We enjoy batting with each other. If we apply pressure by coming at them. We have got a tough game against RR, have to start fresh again.

Losing skipper, KL Rahul said

I think when we lose wickets in the powerplay, it’s always going to be tough and getting Mayank run-out was a disaster. We kept losing wickets after that and it was one of those days where everything (aerial shots) went into the hands of fielders. The last five games we’ve been struggling in the death overs, but we pulled things back, else 230 was on the cards. Pooran is so good to watch, he’s hitting proper cricket shots.

If we get a decent job at the start, he can do the job for us later. He’s (Ravi Bishnoi) always enjoyed those situations, that’s great to see for a youngster. All of them are professionals, and they know where they’re going wrong. Everyone’s working hard and they want to contribute for the team. They have proved themselves in the past,  sometimes it doesn’t come off, but you got to be patient.

Man of the match, Jonny Bairstow said

Very pleased. The consistency is the key. The partnership at the top was the key tonight. He’s (Warner) a good fun, we know what a quality batter he is. I am happy with the way I am striking. The temperature is different, the dimensions and pitches are different too. The guys held the nerve. (On keeping to Rashid Khan) It’s great fun, tricky at times.
