Kolkata Knight Riders pulled off a sensational win for the second time in two matches as they clinched a 2-run win against Kings XI Punjab. Shubman Gill’s gritty 47-ball 57 set a platform for KKR after early wickets. Dinesh Karthik smashed a 29-ball 58 towards the end to take Knight Riders to 164/6. The KXIP cruised through in the chase as their openers KL Rahul (74 off 58) and Mayank Agarwal (56 off 39) added 115 in only 14.2 overs. KXIP set towards a win with only 21 runs needed from 17 balls but could only score 18 runs from there on and lost by two runs.

A narrow win for KKR:

2 – The 2-run win in this match is Kolkata Knight Riders’ joint narrowest win in the IPL history. They also won by two runs while defending their total of 150 during the 2014 season against RCB in Sharjah.

2 – Kings XI Punjab’s 2-run defeat in KXIP vs KKR is now their 2nd narrowest defeat in terms of runs in the IPL. They lost to RCB by a 1-run margin in the 2016 home season game while chasing a target of 176.


Milestone defeat for KXIP:

100 – The defeat during KXIP vs KKR was the 100th Twenty20 match lost by the Kings XI Punjab. They have suffered 99 losses in the IPL thus far and one in the CLT20. The Punjab franchise is the 8th side to lose as many as 100 T20 matches.

18 – Kings XI Punjab now has lost 18 IPL matches against Kolkata Knight Riders; the 2nd most number of defeats for any team against an opponent in the IPL. Kolkata Knight Riders are on the top having lost as many as 20 games against the Mumbai Indians in the league history.


A big stand in vain:

115 – The partnership of 115 between KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal is now the 2nd highest opening stand in an unsuccessful chase in the IPL. The highest is 121 between Gautam Gambhir and Robin Uthappa during the 2014 edition against RR. The highest partnership for any wicket in an unsuccessful chase is 135 for the 3rd wicket between Manish Pandey and Kane Williamson against RCB in 2018.


Karthik goes well against KXIP:

557Dinesh Karthik has scored 557 runs in the IPL against Kings XI Punjab; the most number of runs he scored against any team in the league. KXIP is also the first team against which Karthik scored as many as four fifties. His 22-ball fifty during KXIP vs KKR was his joint-fastest fifty in the IPL thus far.


Milestones for Morgan and Shami:

1021 – Eoin Morgan completed 1000 runs in the IPL when he went past his individual score of 3 during the KXIP vs KKR. A total of 71 players including Morgan has amassed 1000 IPL runs thus far.

50 – Mohammed Shami completed 50 wickets in the IPL with the wicket of Rahul Tripathi. He is the 49th player in the IPL to claim as many as 50 wickets.


Mujeeb’s wicketless spree:

15 – Mujeeb Ur Rahman has bowled as many as 15 overs in his last four matches in the IPL but failed to pick up even one wicket. Instead, the Afghanistan spinner conceded 173 runs in those four games at an economy of 11.53.
