Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), on Saturday, sacked David Warner as captain for the remainder of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). Kane Williamson replaced him at the helm even as the franchise confirmed that the Australian will continue to contribute to the team and direct them towards the path of success. However, it was also stated that the management is looking to try different combinations of overseas players in the team.

This has dropped a big hint of David Warner most probably not playing their next game against Rajasthan Royals on Sunday. The southpaw hasn’t been at his best with the bat this season despite being the second-highest run-scorer for SRH so far. He has mustered 193 runs in six matches at an average of 32.16. But his strike-rate of 110.28 has been a worrying factor and it was highlighted during SRH’s loss against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Warner crawled his way to 57 off 55 deliveries and the man took full responsibility of the loss after the match as well. Now that, he is no more the skipper of the team, SRH management might look to try other combinations among overseas players they have in their squad.

Here we bring you three players who can replace David Warner in SRH’s playing XI:

1. Jason Holder

It was baffling to see Jason Holder being left out after the only match he played earlier this season. The Caribbean all-rounder returned with the figures of 3/30 in his four overs against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). He had picked wickets of Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and Kyle Jamieson and though he failed with the bat scoring only four runs in that game, Holder generally lends a lot of solidity to the line-up especially at six or seven.

Bringing the former West Indies all-rounder will also strengthen their bowling attack which is lacking serious bite this time around. T Natarajan has been ruled out of the season while Bhuvneshwar Kumar has not played the last couple of matches due to injury and there is no update on when he will be back.

With Holder coming into the XI, he will support Rashid Khan well while the rest of the bowlers can just revolve around them. However, this will open up a slot at the top. Either Kane Williamson can open with Jonny Bairstow in that case or SRH can bring in Wriddhiman Saha who has done the job for them previously as well.

2. Mohammad Nabi

With the pitches being on the slower side, SRH could think of bringing in a all-round option of Mohammad Nabi. He can deliver in dual roles of bowling four overs of off-spin and then tonk the ball down the order. SRH are lacking a solid finisher at the moment which is leading to the top four playing very conservatively and Nabi’s presence might allow them to bat freely.

Pitches are on the slower side a bit and spin will play a huge part if they are bowling first or even in the afternoon matches. Jagadeesha Suchith was taken for a lot of runs in the last game and Rashid Khan didn’t get enough support from the other end despite picking up three wickets.

Nabi can do exactly the same and tie the opposition batsmen up bowling in tandem with Rashid. Again, it leaves the management to decide on the opening slot and Saha or Williamson or any other Indian player can fulfil that requirement.

3. Jason Roy

This is a simple swap between two openers and we could see England openers batting together for SRH. Jason Roy was signed as replacement after Mitchell Marsh was ruled out of IPL 2021. Both Bairstow and Roy have been opening together for England in the limited-overs format together for a long time now and have been immensely successful.

With Roy coming, SRH will definitely get the much needed boost in the powerplay and we could see them getting a solid base in the first six overs itself. The likes of Williamson and Manish Pandey can later carry on with the momentum in that case and help the team post or chase a big total.

However, this will leave their bowling struggling again which has been the case in the last few matches. However, if the batsmen are ready to step up and score 20 runs more every time to cover up for a weak bowling line-up, then the management might go with Roy as the opener.
