Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore played out an absolute thriller as they were competing for the top spot. AB de Villiers once again showed his superhuman skills, in a one-man-show when other batsmen of his team couldn’t score much. After the AB show led RCB to 171, it looked all but over when they reduced DC to 47/3.
By then they had a phase of four consecutive overs without a boundary. Slowly Stoinis and Pant started to deal with fours to maintain the required run-rate. After Stoinis got out, there entered a big hitting Caribbean man in Shimron Hetmyer. From a very tricky phase of 75 to win in 36 balls, he could bring down the difference to just 1 run at the end with the help of two boundaries from Rishabh Pant in last two balls.
Here’s a look at the stats from the thrilling RCB-DC encounter:
23 – This is the 23rd time AB de Villiers remained unbeaten after scoring fifty-plus runs in an IPL innings, already the most by any player. Next highest is MS Dhoni with 19 unbeaten fifty-plus knocks.
5 – This is the fifth time AB de Villiers scored fifty or more against his former team Delhi Capitals in IPL, the most by an overseas player. This makes him joint third highest in most fifty-plus knocks against Delhi Capitals in IPL. Only Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane have more half-centuries against Delhi Capitals in IPL.
2 – Prithvi Shaw became the second youngest cricketer to reach 1000 runs in IPL. Only player to reach 1000 IPL runs at a younger age is Rishabh Pant.
5 – Harshal Patel became the fifth player to reach 50 wickets for Royal Challengers Bangalore. The others are Yuzvendra Chahal, Vinay Kumar, Anil Kumble and Sreenath Aravind.

2 – AB de Villiers becomes only the second overseas player to reach 5000 IPL runs, with the first being David Warner.
5 – This is now the fifth time Glenn Maxwell is out to Amit Mishra’s bowling in IPL. Mishra now dismissed Maxwell more than any other player (tied with Jadeja).
100 – During his knock of 25, Glenn Maxwell hit two sixes. The first of them was his 100th six in IPL.
2 – This is only the second time Shimron Hetmyer reached a fifty in IPL, and he did it in just 23 balls to almost win it for Delhi Capitals. His first fifty was against SRH in 2019.
