Match No.38 of the 2021 IPL between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders turned out to be an absolute humdinger. The game went right down to the last ball and CSK came out trumps by two wickets. Moreover, MS Dhoni and Co moved to the top of the points table. Delhi Capitals have again been pushed down to second. Rana and Tripathi guide KKR

Keeping in mind the conditions, the Knights opted to bat first and the tactic didn’t backfire as they racked up 171 for six on the board. The start wasn’t great for them as Shubman Gill perished after a stupendous direct hit from Ambati Rayudu. Venkatesh Iyer hit three fours before Shardul Thakur removed him. Eoin Morgan’s poor run of form continued after Josh Hazlewood dismissed him.

Rahul Tripathi, at the other hand, looked determined, having scored 45 runs off 33 balls with four fours and one six. But Jadeja castled him in the 13th over to cut short his stay in the middle. Nitish Rana, from there on, took charge. The left-hander stayed unbeaten on 37 off 27 with support from Andre Russell, who made a 15-ball 20. Dinesh Karthik also played a useful cameo of 26 off 11 balls.

CSK get over the line in cliffhanger

The Super Kings got off to a flying start after Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis stitched together a partnership of 74 runs for the opening wicket. Andre Russell gave KKR their first breakthrough, getting rid of Gaikwad, who made a 28-ball 40. Du Plessis carried on with the good work, but Prasidh Krishna nipped him out. Du Plessis got out after scoring 44 runs off 30 balls with seven fours.

After the openers perished, the Knights started making a comeback. Moeen Ali scored 32 off 28 before Lockie Ferguson got rid of him. Sunil Narine castled Rayudu after which Suresh Raina gout run out at the non-striker’s end. Thereafter, Jadeja smashed Prasidh Krishna and the target was down to four off six balls. Narine tried his best to defend four runs in the last over, but his effort went in vain.
