Chennai Super Kings have managed to secure their ninth win and have almost cemented their place among the top two teams. On Thursday, September 30, MS Dhoni and Co. beat the Sunrisers Hyderabad by six wickets at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. As far as the Sunrisers are concerned, they lost their ninth game in the tournament and seem destined to end as the cellar dwellers.

Saha top-scores for SRH

After being put in to bat first, the Sunrisers managed to score only 134 for the loss of seven wickets. Jason Roy couldn’t repeat his heroics from the game against Rajasthan Royals. He fell prey to Josh Hazlewood. Kane Williamson also couldn’t make an impact as Dwayne Bravo trapped him plumb in front. Priyam Gaga couldn’t contribute either. Wriddhiman Saha looked a tad ominous meanwhile.

In difficult batting conditions, he scored 44 with one four and two sixes. He also got a reprieve when Shardul Thakur got him caught off a no-ball. Ravindra Jadeja eventually got rid of the SRH opening batter. Abhishek Sharma and Abdul Samad scored 18 runs each and the Orange Army crawled to 134 for seven. Hazlewood got three wickets while Bravo finished with impressive figures of 4-0-17-2.

Gaikwad and Du Plessis set up CSK’s win

The Super Kings got off to a blistering start after Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis notched 47 runs in the powerplay. The duo stitched together a crucial partnership of 75 runs for the opening wicket off 61 balls. Jason Holder gave the Sunrisers their first breakthrough after he got rid of Gaikwad, who made a 38-ball 45. Du Plessis, at the smashed three fours and two sixes on his way to a 36-ball 41.

Moeen Ali started with two fours after which Rashid Khan castled him. Holder, thereafter, chipped in with the wickets of du Plessis and Suresh Raina. SRH found hard as the Super Kings needed 16 runs to win off the last two overs. However, CSK fetched 13 runs off the penultimate over to make themselves favourites. In the end, MS Dhoni smashed a long to help CSK win with two balls left.
