Mumbai Indians, on Friday, defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad by 42 runs at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. But despite the win, Rohit Sharma and Co, couldn’t qualify for the playoffs as they fell behind Kolkata Knight Riders’ net run rate. Their batters set the victory up for them after which the bowlers did the job. The Sunrisers, in the meantime, couldn’t end on a high.

Kishan and Suryakumar power MI

After winning the toss and batting first, MI fired on all cylinders and smashed 83 runs in the powerplay. Ishan Kishan was in no mood to die wondering as he scored a 16-ball fifty, also the fastest in the ongoing edition of the IPL. Kishan and skipper Rohit Sharma stitched together an 80-run stand off 33 balls. Rashid Khan gave the Sunrisers some breather getting or Rohit, who made 18.

Kishan went on to amass 84 off a mere 32 balls with 11 fours and four sixes. Umran Malik found his outside side to send back the southpaw. Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, James Neesham and Krunal Pandya flattered to deceive. However, Suryakumar Yadav upped the ante in the death overs. He stayed unbeaten on 70 off 32 balls with 10 fours and three sixes and MI finished with 230 for seven.

Manish Pandey stands out for SRH

The Sunrisers started their run-chase on a positive note, scoring 70 runs in the first six overs. Jason Roy went berserk and scored 34 with six fours before Trent Boult induced a false stroke from him. Abhishek Sharma threw his bat around for a 16-ball 33 after which he skied one of New Zealand pacer James Neesham. Mohammad Nabi took five catches, but flattered to deceive with the bat.

After dismissing Nabi, Piyush Chawla overtook Amit Mishra as the leading wicker-taker for India in T20s. Neesham got his second wicket in the form of Abdul Samad. Priyam Garg looked for his 21-ball 29 before Jasprit Bumrah removed him. However, it was Manish Pandey, who impressed the most. The right-handed batter stayed unbeaten on 69 off 41 balls as the Sunrisers ended with 193 for eight.
