With an almost impractical task at hand, Mumbai Indians will meet Sunrisers Hyderabad in the joint-last league-stage game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. The encounter takes place at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on October 7. As SRH are already out of the playoff race, they’ll have nothing but pride to play for.
On the other hand, the five-time champions need to put up a once-in-a-lifetime performance. Probably, something even more than that to qualify for the playoffs. MI (-0.048) are way behind KKR (+0.587) in terms of the net run rate. Hence, Rohit Sharma’s meet to win this clash by a jaw-dropping margin. If MI bat first, they must win the game by at least 170 runs, which is not realistic by any means.
However, their hopes will be shattered in the toss session itself if SRH elected to bat. Hence, the five-time champions have no option but to go all guns blazing. With Kane Williamson’s men reeling at the rock-bottom of the team standings, MI would take the field as favourites. However, just a victory won’t be enough for them.
Meanwhile, let’s look at important stats and numbers ahead of the 56th game of the Indian Premier League 2021:
Head to Head record: MI are just a tad ahead of SRH in terms of head-to-head record in IPL. In 17 clashes, MI have won 9 games while SRH emerged winners 8 times.
