Sunrisers Hyderabad registered their third consecutive defeat in IPL 2021. It was again the same story for Orange Army as they lost the game after taking the run-chase deep owing to a brutal collapse of their batting line-up. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians scripted their second win in the tournament as they kept their calm to defend 150 and won the game by 13 runs.

The match commenced with Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma winning the toss and making the unconventional choice of batting first. The opening duo of Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock looked in good touch in the middle and started hammering the ball all over the park. Rohit played some good shots in the powerplay while De Kock acted as a second fiddle.

The all-rounder Vijay Shankar gave the first major breakthrough to his team in the seventh over as he dismissed the opposition skipper while he was playing at 32 off 25. After Rohit’s dismissal, the MI batsmen tried to stitch some partnerships in the middle, however, Sunrisers never gave them the time to settle as the bowlers took timely wickets.

Meanwhile, a sublime knock by de Kock of 40 runs and a cameo of 35 runs off 22 balls by Kieron Pollard ensured that Mumbai was successful in posting a decent total of 150 runs for five in their 20 overs. For Hyderabad, Vijay Shankar and Mujeeb Ur Rahman were the picks of the bowlers as they scalped two wickets each.

SRH’s middle-order collapses again

Chasing 151, Hyderabad decided to go with their tried and tested opening pair of Jonny Bairstow and David Warner. The England batsman seemed in a blistering form as he smashed bowlers like Trent Boult all over the park. Bairstow played a quick-fire inning of 43 runs off 22 balls.

However, Jonny’s wicket initiated a collapse of SRH’s batting line-up as he was soon followed by Manish Pandey, who walked back after scoring 2 runs. The Orange Army skipper looked well settled in the middle and was expected to take SRH to the finish line. But, Hardik Pandya effected a run-out in the 12th over to send Warner back to the pavilion and help Mumbai make a comeback in the game.

Towards the end, Vijay Shankar smashed some boundaries to lit up a gloomy SRH dug-out. However, he also lost his wicket in the 19th over. After this, Mumbai quickly took all the 10 wickets to restrict Hyderbad to 137 runs within 19.4 overs and win the game by 13 runs.
