Prithvi Shaw is in the limelight for his scintillating performances in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Delhi Capitals’ (DC) opener has plundered 269 runs in the 14th edition of the IPL and has scored his runs at an average of 38.43 and at a strike rate of 165.03.
In fact, it was Shaw’s fantabulous 82 against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) that powered the Rishabh Pant led side to a win against the Eoin Morgan led side. And, Shaw has now opened up on the conversation he had with his father after he returned back from Australia. Shaw was not amongst the runs in the land of the kangaroos and was dropped after the first Test at Adelaide.
Shaw stated that he was not happy with himself after he returned from Australia. The 21-year-old youngster revealed that his father asked him to play his natural game. These words from his father made him work hard. Shaw also added that in cricket there are a lot of ups and downs, and there are a lot of failures that a sportsman has to endure.
“After getting back from Australia, I wasn’t happy with myself. My dad just asked me to play my natural game. All these words set a target on me and I worked hard. In cricket the graphs are going to go up and down, a lot of failures are going to come my way,” said Shaw during the post-match presentation.
“I don’t think about myself, just want the team to win,” says Prithvi Shaw
Prithvi Shaw further added that he does not always think about himself and he wants his team to end up on the winning side. Shaw also said that he was just waiting for the loose balls in the match against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The Delhi Capitals’ opener concluded by stating that since he has played a lot of cricket with Shivam Mavi, he knew where the Kolkata pacer was going to bowl to him.
“When I’m in there, I keep playing and don’t think about the score. Don’t think about myself, just want the team to win. Wasn’t thinking anything to be honest (are you prepared to hit boundaries from the start?). Was just waiting for the loose balls. We’ve played for four-five years now (with Mavi), so I knew where he will bowl to me.
I was prepared for the short ball. The first four-five balls he bowled were half-volleys so I was prepared for the short ball but unfortunately, he didn’t bowl,” concluded Shaw.
Prithvi Shaw and the Delhi Capitals will next be seen in action on 2nd May 2021 against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) side.
