IPL 2021: Sania Mirza's father reacts to SRH's losses; takes a jibe at the franchise for not having local players

The Indian Premier League 2021 season has finally started and it seems the start of the season hasn’t been quite ideal for the SRH team. The Hyderabad team lost two back-to-back matches to start off their 2021 season. Last two years as well, they had started the season poorly but later on, picked up their game and eventually made it to the playoffs.

However, after the David Warner-led team lost their match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Wednesday by six runs, Sania Mirza’s father took to Twitter complaining about a couple of things. The father of the Tennis star was not happy with the fact that SRH does not have any local players in their set-up. His comments also come after SRH lost two consecutive matches, which they should have won. 

The players with origins in Hyderabad or Andhra Pradesh have found their way into other franchises. Mohammad Siraj plays for RCB, while Ambati Rayudu plays for Chennai Super Kings. Another local boy, Hanuma Vihari who has even played for India at Test level, was ignored by all the franchises, including SRH in the IPL 2021 auction. 

Sania’s father feels SRH won’t win many matches

Imran Mirza, the father of Sania, was not happy with the treatment meted to the local players. He further questioned why Hyderabad was not assigned as one of the venues for the IPL 2021. To avoid the usual travelling, BCCI came up with a unique system this year. All teams are playing at neutral venues as Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and Bangalore are hosting the ongoing edition.

Imran Mirza’s tweet read, “No local player was considered good enough to be selected in SRH. They even didn’t think Hyderabad is a safe venue to host matches while seriously Covid-hit centers got the nod. Looks like SRH will end up with few wins and dwindling home support. Time to introspect.”

Interestingly, Hyderabad Cricket Association president Mohammad Azharuddin had offered the facilities of the stadium in Hyderabad and said that his city is ready to take up the challenge of hosting the league if required. However, BCCI didn’t consider the proposal from Azharuddin.
