As the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League goes past the halfway stage, the points table has seen tremendous shuffling after nearly every single game. However, one of the teams that have found life difficult this season are the Chennai Super Kings, despite being the defending champions. Many supporters of the side are being reminded of the 2020 season in which CSK finished in the bottom half of the table, as the team struggled to find a winning combination.

In the 7 matches they have played so far in the IPL 2022, the team has managed to win only 2 of them. With 4 points and a net run rate of -0.534, Chennai Super Kings are placed at the second last position at present, only above their arch-rivals, Mumbai Indians who are winless at the time of writing this article.

Prior to the mega auction of the TATA IPL 2022, CSK retained all-rounders Moeen Ali and Ravindra Jadeja. The other 2 players retained were former captain MS Dhoni and young opener Ruturaj Gaikwad, who won the Orange Cap in the IPL 2021.

But seeing CSK’s struggles, here’s a look at some benched players who have the potential to help CSK produce a turnaround in the second half of the season –

1. Devon Conway

Devon Conway, a left-handed batter from New Zealand, has been in the news since he was named the ICC Cricketer of the Month in June 2021.

However, when it comes to the IPL 2022, he has so far gotten just 1 match to showcase his potential and that was in the opening match of the competition against Kolkata Knight Riders. Unfortunately, Conway managed to score just 3 runs. With CSK requiring more batting firepower, the 4-time champions could consider reinstating him into the playing XI, probably in place of his Kiwi teammate, Mitchell Santner. Conway can also chip in with the ball for a few overs if required, making him a potential surprise package for oppositions.
