The IPL 2022 is now just a couple of days away. Most teams of the competition have laid themselves in the state of Maharashtra. The tournament is ready to kickstart with the game between last year’s two finalists (CSK & KKR).
Perhaps with regards to the age of the IPL players, the Universe Boss (Chris Gayle) used to be the oldest bloke. Even as an ageing team, CSK was called dad’s army. However, in IPL 2022, the seniority factors have changed ahead. Hence in this list, let’s check out the 5 oldest players of the IPL 2022 season.
(Kindly note that the mentioned age of players has been derived as per the date 24th March 2022.)
Here are 5 Oldest Players of IPL 2022:
5. Mohammad Nabi (37y 82d)
Well, this Afghan legend is now gracefully entering into the late 30s. The cricketer in the IPL had first made his debut with the orange army (2017). Till the last season, Nabi used to receive a salary of INR 1 Cr from SRH. However, in IPL 2022, the all-rounder will now play for KKR.
By getting signed at his previous salary, Nabi will enjoy the exclusive company of other all-rounders like Andre Russell and Sunil Narine. Generally, the Afghan cricketer is also perceived to be a backup of Sunil Narine. However, in the last two IPL seasons, Nabi has just featured in a total of 4 games.
Overall, as a veteran of the shortest format, Nabi has a very reasonable IPL record. From his total 17 IPL matches, the 37-year old has scalped 13 wickets and scored a tally of 180 runs. We just hope that in IPL 2022, this maestro gets to play a lot more.
4. Wriddhiman Saha (37y 151d)
Wriddhiman Saha had started his IPL career at the age of 23. While representing KKR, the cricketer also used to be their front-line gloveman. In the cash-rich league, Saha has won an IPL title with CSK in 2011. Also in his prime, the batter had an impressive stint with the Punjab franchise till IPL 2017.
Perhaps now in the upcoming season, the gloveman will play for the Gujarat Titans. By signing him for almost INR 2 Crore, Saha might even dwell himself as a top-order batter. However, sadly with regards to his last IPL season, the 37-year old had a severe malfunction. From his 9 appearances, Saha just scored 131 runs at a poor strike rate of 93.57.
Otherwise comprehensively, the veteran holds a very decent IPL record. From his total of 133 appearances, Saha has scored 2110 runs at an average of 24.53. We hope that in IPL 2022, Saha gives Titans a lot of steadfast starts.
3. Faf Du Plessis (37y 254d)
This Protea cricketer had started his IPL journey in 2012. As a 27-year-old, Faf was picked by MSD’s yellow army. In his debut season, the batter had also received a modest salary of INR 60 Lakh. However, in the current times, Faf will captain RCB and receive a salary of INR 7 Cr.
Perhaps though the 37-year old is ageing, in IPL 2021 he was the second-highest run-scorer. In fact, for CSK, Du Plessis produced his best ever IPL season. By scoring more than 600 runs, the veteran was also smacking at a strike rate of almost 140. Comprehensively, his last two IPL seasons have been the most enriching to date.
Overall, Faf is also one of CSK’s exclusive players to play 100 games. The ace cricketer is also now nearing 3000 runs in the competition. All in all, we wish that Du Plessis makes even RCB win its first IPL championship.
2. DJ Bravo (38y 168d)
This WI cricketer has been playing IPL since 2008. Dwayne Bravo was just 24 years old when he played for MI in the inaugural season. Till IPL 2010, the all-rounder used to be a prominent name in the MI squad. However, Bravo’s best IPL days have contentedly come under the yellow army. His association with CSK started in 2011 and is robust till today.
In the IPL’s last four-year cycle, this T20 legend used to get a salary of around INR 6.4 Cr. Performance-wise, the pacer had a brilliant IPL 2021 scalping 14 wickets from 11 matches. His current retirement from international cricket also indicates that Bravo is in the twilight of his career. However, in terms of energy and vigour, the cricketer looks always peppy and zestful.
Overall, even in IPL 2022, Bravo will lead CSK’s pace bowling attack. The superstar is also expected to surpass Lasith Malinga’s wicket tally and become IPL’s all-time leading wicket-taker.
1. MS Dhoni (40y 260d)
Blissfully, our beloved captain cool is still very much intact with the IPL. Since the inaugural season, MSD has been the heartbeat of the yellow army. As CSK’s oldest player, the cricketer has now played around 190 games. The behemoth is also the franchise’s second-highest run-scorer.
Perhaps the association with CSK had happened when MSD was just 26-year-old. As the most expensive player of the inaugural IPL auction, Dhoni was affluently signed by CSK. In IPL 2022, the legend will receive a salary of INR 12 Cr. Last year in IPL 2021, MSD became the first cricketer to earn INR 150 Cr from the IPL.
Overall, as fans, we hope that MSD continues playing IPL for yet another season and make CSK defend its IPL title. He will also be playing for CSK as a player for the first time in IPL having handed over the captaincy to KKR.
