Palpably the best franchise cricketing tournament in the world is the Indian Premier League. It is an erratic tournament as the franchises have the authority to change a player’s life completely. And it can also drop the player abruptly for the next season if it doesn’t go well for him.

IPL has the power to act vice-versa on the verses “Rags to Riches”. Unlike the other cricket tournaments where only the players play a role on the ground, in franchise cricket the role of the owners and the management is as important as the players. The management needs to play the retention and bidding games way before the players step onto the ground.

The statute for the teams to retain players makes the task even more challenging. But as the teams should abide by the regulations, they are in a tight constraint to retain the players based on their salary caps. Many players were left out from the team due to the retention rules though they had served them well before. Here, We have listed 5 players who were not retained, though they deserved to be by their respective teams.

Harshal Patel recently was fondly called “Purple Patel” after he received the purple cap for taking 32 wickets in the 2021’s IPL season. The right-arm-fast-medium pacer was traded from Delhi capitals to his former franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2021. His slow balls proved to be lethal at India and United Arab Emirates’ pitches.

In the first match of 2021 itself, he impressed every man jack by taking a fifer against the mighty Mumbai Indians. He also became the first bowler ever to grab a five-wicket haul against MI. He went on to perform well throughout and ended the tally with 32 wickets which include a fifer and a hat-trick.

It became the joint highest wickets and the highest wickets ever taken by an Indian in an IPL season. In just one season, he shattered many records. He also won the Most Valuable Player of the season and Gamechanger of the season. It is harsh on someone to be released after being the best player of the tournament.
