IPL 2022: Best Indian XI of the league

The Indian Premier League is now fourteen years old and now steps into its fifteenth year with the addition of two new teams. The mega-auction for the upcoming season of the IPL ended meticulously and the players were assigned to their teams. A total of 237 players will participate in this IPL of which 167 are Indians. The Indians held the top three slots in the expensive buys of this year’s IPL. Since its inception, it has provided a lot of opportunities for cricket players all around the world and particularly for Indian representatives. It has now become the direct entry for the Indian players into the national side. Only the players with high skills and ability would get the chance to represent the teams and it is indeed difficult to name the best XI Indian players of IPL 2022. However, from the previous stats and from the expectations on the players by the fans and franchises, here we have listed the- Best Indian XI of IPL 2022 1. Rohit Sharma Rohit Sharma. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Rohit Sharma is undoubtedly one of the best captains in this league as he has led the team to the triumph most number of times. Apart from his captaincy, predominantly he is a wonderful batter and has 5,611 runs averaging 31.17. Rohit is the face of the Mumbai Indians side after the legend Sachin Tendulkar retired, and the management has complimented him enough for his credentials. The previous year did not go in the favour of the side despite having the strongest line-up on paper. This year, as the teams had to be revamped, and as they could retain only four of each team’s players, the Mumbai side without any dubiety, retained Rohit Sharma as their number one player. Hitman has now taken over the captaincy of the Indian side in limited-overs and his confidence would be at an all-time high. He is definitely a player to look upon. 2. Shikhar Dhawan Shikhar Dhawan. He is currently the second-highest run-getter in this tournament with 5,784 and as an Indian, he has hit almost half centuries (44). Gabbar has played 194 matches and has a career strike rate of 126.65 which is just behind Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Particularly, the previous three years have been phenomenal for him as he scored more than 500 runs consistently in each of the seasons. Despite having a good run in the previous seasons for Delhi Capitals, Dhawan was not retained. However, he was the first pick in this year’s mega auction and will represent Punjab Kings and this is the sixth franchise, he plays for. Dhawan will guide the young team with his experience and will be their team’s key player. 3. Virat Kohli Virat Kohli. It was a big bombshell when the veteran announced his withdrawal from the responsibility of captaincy. This legendary batter is the top scorer in this league and stands tall with 6,283 runs in 207 IPL matches with a strike rate of 129.95. Virat is the only player who has been playing the IPL for the same franchise since 2008. He is such a player that the team always revolves around him. Certainly, he was retained by RCB and most probably will open the innings with Faf Du Plessis. This year, without any pressure, he would anticipate maximizing his contribution in the batting department and would love to lift his maiden IPL trophy. 4. Ishan Kishan Ishan Kishan. He is the most expensive purchase in this year’s auction. Ishan’s IPL debut took place for the dissolved Gujarat Lions in 2016. This youngster came into the limelight when he was picked by MI in 2018. The MI franchise is a pro in grooming young Indian talents such as Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, etc. And, Ishan is one such product from the franchise. He is an explosive batter at the top order and is a professional wicket-keeper. Ishan has played a total of 61 IPL matches and has gathered 1452 runs with a strike rate of 136.33. He was selected in the 2021 T20 World Cup squad of India ahead of senior players. Ishan is a future prospect and hence the teams fought hard to own this player and he won’t disappoint the team for his expensive buy. 5. Rishabh Pant Rishabh Pant. (Photo Source: Twitter) Rishabh Pant is a player who has utilized his opportunities to the uttermost possible level and now stands tall as the costliest retained player of Delhi Capitals. He is retained by his home franchise as the first pick for a massive INR 16 crores. His history with the Delhi franchise dates back to the year 2016 when he was signed by the team after seeing his blistering knocks in that year’s ICC U19 Cricket World Cup. He started the IPL with a salary of INR 1.9 crore and in six years, his pay has now almost increased 8.4 times. The reason for this hike is due to his explicit performances for the team. He has played 84 IPL matches till now and has 2,498 runs in his kitty with an amazing strike rate of 147.46. Pant was promoted as the captain of DC in 2021 and led the team to qualifiers. He was then assigned as the permanent skipper of the side and now has all the factors to lead the team to their maiden title. 6. Venkatesh Iyer Venkatesh Iyer. His growth has been unbelievable as he now plays for the Indian team after just proving his abilities in ten matches. When the Kolkata Knight Riders side struggled to find the winning ways in the first phase of the IPL, the ultimate change which transformed the fortune of the team and the player was to make him represent the first eleven. This 28-year-old all-rounder was magnificent with his opening batting as he hit 370 runs with a strike rate of 128.47. He displayed fearless batting at the top order and set the momentum of the team high. He also took three wickets with an economy of 8.11. Iyer also went on to represent the Indian limited-overs side. He was retained by KKR ahead of the auction and it will be nice to see this player in flow again. 7. Ravindra Jadeja Ravindra Jadeja Celebration. He started off his journey in Chennai Super Kings in 2012 and it has been a pleasant ride for the player until 2015 when the franchise was suspended. In 2018, this versatile player was retained along with MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina. His valuable contributions with the bat, ball, and fielding made the team lift the trophy in 2018 and 2022. On playing 200 IPL matches, he has scored 2386 runs at a strike rate of 128.07. With the ball, he has 127 scalps with an economy rate of 7.61. The team trusted in the ability of this player and he has delivered the utmost to the team. For his all-round performance, he was retained for a price of INR 16 crores ahead of MS Dhoni this year. He is certainly the best senior all-rounder in this league. 8. Shardul Thakur Shardul Thakur. He debuted in the IPL for Kings XI Punjab in 2015 and after that, he was transferred to Rising Pune Supergiants in 2017 and then to Chennai Super Kings in 2018. Shardul has been an integral part of the CSK franchise in its win in 2018 and 2021. He was the highest Indian wicket-taker in the second phase of the IPL 2021 and hence got the opportunity to represent the Indian team in the T20 World Cup that year. In his appearance in 61 IPL matches, he managed to take 67 wickets with an economy of 8.89. He is yet to display his batting proficiency in the IPL but is a much-improved batter lower down the order. Thakur was not retained by CSK and couldn’t get him back in the auction as he was sold for Delhi Capitals for a price of INR 10.75 crores. It would be exciting to see this player’s role in DC’s campaign. 9. Deepak Chahar Deepak Chahar. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Ever since this player stepped into the Chennai Super Kings squad, he has handled the powerplay overs for the team very efficiently. His ability to swing the ball in both sides upfront has gifted him many early dismissals and he always set the team’s momentum high with his scalps. Deepak has been a part of 63 IPL matches and has grabbed 59 wickets with an economy rate of 7.80. He is a handy lower-order batter who has an amusing strike rate of 138.59 and has all the potential to become a proper all-rounder. This 30-year-old player was featured in the auction this year and he triggered a bidding war between the teams. He attracted the interests of Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals, and finally, CSK bought him back for a huge INR 14 crores and is the second costliest buy of this auction. Chahar is one of the finest talents in the contention right now. 10. Yuzvendra Chahal Yuzvendra Chahal. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) The Royal Challenger Yuzvendra Chahal will now be a part of the Rajasthan Royals squad as he was picked for INR 6.5 crores. He has rendered the services consistently for RCB since 2014 and after eight long years, it is time for him to don a different jersey. This Indian leggie has played 114 IPL matches and has 139 wickets to his name. He just has an economy rate of 7.59 in the IPL as he troubles the batters with his variations and has always been Virat’s go-to bowler to pick key wickets at crucial times. It is also to be noted that he has evolved as the leading wicket-taker of the RCB team in just playing eight years in a fourteen-year-old franchise. Chahal will partner with the highly experienced Ravichandran Ashwin in the RR squad and this duo is expected to deliver their magic. 11. Jasprit Bumrah: Jasprit Bumrah. He was an obvious decision to be retained and if he had featured in the auction, he would have shattered the existing records as the teams would be longing to own a player like him. Since his IPL debut in 2013, he has picked 130 wickets in 106 matches with an economy of 7.41. His Yorkers are lethal and almost picks wickets in all the matches he plays. Apart from being a wicket-taking bowler, he also controls the run flow in the other end and makes the world-class batters struggle against him.
