Mumbai Indian’s new recruit Dewald Brevis had set the stage on fire in the U19 World Cup for South Africa this year and he will now be looking to showcase his talent in the cash-rich tournament. The right-hander has been popularly called ‘Baby AB’ for his similarities in batting style and stroke-making with one of the best batters in the last decade, AB De Villiers. Brevis was picked up for INR three Crores by the Mumbai franchise after an immense bidding war with Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings.

Brevis might be one of the untested commodities having played just two List A games and nine T20 games so far, but there is no doubt about his potential. The 18-year-old topped the batting charts in the U19 World Cup 2022 in the West Indies with 506 runs in six innings at an average of 84.33, hitting two centuries and three half-centuries in the process as well.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians‘ official Twitter handle, MI Paltan, has been following the youngster from close quarters and they shared a video on Twitter depicting the brilliant six-hitting qualities of Brevis. The important feature of the six was the ‘no look’ move from Brevis knowing that he has timed it really well and the MI Paltan were in awe of the attractive shot.

Dewald Brevis might have to wait for his IPL debut

With the top three packed with star batters for the Mumbai Indians, it will be tough for Brevis to get into the playing XI in the first few games. Mumbai managed to bag the services of Tim David, and he is expected to do the finishing duties alongside Kieron Pollard. With two overseas slots already filled in the batting department, skipper Rohit Sharma will be looking to find another Indian batter in the top six to accommodate two overseas bowlers. Mumbai Indians will start their campaign on the 27th of March against the Delhi Capitals at the Brabourne Stadium.

Mumbai Indians squad for IPL 2022: Rohit Sharma (c), Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, Kieron Pollard, Ishan Kishan, Dewald Brevis, Basil Thampi, Murugan Ashwin, Jaydev Unadkat, Mayank Markande, N Tilak Varma, Sanjay Yadav, Jofra Archer, Daniel Sams, Tymal Mills, Tim David, Riley Meredith, Mohammad Arshad Khan, Anmolpreet Singh, Ramandeep Singh, Rahul Buddhi, Hrithik Shokeen, Arjun Tendulkar, Aryan Juyal, Fabian Allen.
