With eight matches and first week of the 15th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 completed, fans have witnessed several mesmerizing knocks and bowling spells. Several players have showed their true colours in just seven days. However, a few of them failed to cash in.

The list includes several star players including Shubman Gill, Manish Pandey, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rishabh Pant among others. However, the biggest cricketing league has just started and the players will be given more chances to show their capabilities.

Let us have a look at the flop Indian XI after the first week

1. Ruturaj Gaikwad (CSK)

Chennai Super Kings opener Ruturaj Gaikwad was the Orange Cap winner in IPL 2021. The right-handed-batter was retained by the Yellow Army ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. However, the star opener has so far failed to live up to the expectations of the franchise fans.

The defending champions took on the other finalist Kolkata Knight Riders in opening encounter of the tournament. Winning the toss, skipper Shreyas Iyer invited CSK to bat first. However, CSK had a poor start as opener Gaikwad bagged a four-ball duck. The batter was scalped by express pacer Umesh Yadav.

The 25-year-old was unlucky in the second match as well as he was caught short of his crease by an excellent throw from Ravi Bishnoi from backward point. Gaikwad made only  1 off 4. However, he will be looking to perform well for his side in the upcoming match.

2. Shubman Gill (GT)

Star player for the two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders, Shubman Gill failed to provide a perfect start to his new franchise Gujarat Titans. The right-handed batter was signed by Gujarat Titans at a cost of INR 8 crore ahead of the mega auction.

Opening the innings along with Matthew Wade, the opener was scalped by express pacer Dushmantha Chameera in very first over. The ball was bumped short by the pacer, as Gill looked to slash hard. However, the batter only managed to scoop it towards the off-side and was caught by Deepak Hooda.

Gill was a consistent performer for KKR in past few seasons and will be looking to emulate his performance for the new franchise as well. GT will be taking on the Delhi Capitals in their second match of the tournament and Gill will look to rectify his mistakes from the previous match.

3. Manish Pandey (LSG)

Indian batter Manish Pandey has been struggling with bad form for quite a long period. The right-handed batter was purchased by the Lucknow Super Giants at a cost of INR 4.6 crore in the IPL 2022 mega auction.

In first match against GT, Pandey was looking confident and scored a boundary on the third ball he faced. However, the right-handed batter was cleaned up by pacer Mohammed Shami through an excellent in-swinging delivery. Pandey scored six runs in that match.

Just like the first match, Pandey did not managed to get going in the second one. The 32-year-old was playing on five runs when he was caught at mid-off off the bowling of pacer Tushar Deshpande. After two flop shows, the LSG management will be thinking of excluding Pandey from the playing XI in next game.

4. Vijay Shankar (GT)

Vijay Shankar was bagged by Gujarat Titans at a cost of INR 1.40 crore in IPL 2022 mega auction. However, the all-rounder failed to live up to the expectations of the team management.

Chasing a target of 159 set by LSG in their first game, Gujarat lost Gill in opening over of the chase. The other opener Matthew Wade was then joined by Vijay Shankar. However, he failed miserably to score some runs for his side. Shankar after playing five balls and making only four runs, was cleaned up by express pacer Dushmanta Chameera.

Talking about his numbers in IPL, Shankar has played a total of 48 IPL matches in which he has scored 716 runs at an average of 25.57. The medium-pacer has also scalped nine wickets. The 31-year-old is a handy allrounder and will look to perform well for his side in the upcoming matches.

5. Sheldon Jackson (KKR)

Wicketkeeper-batter Sheldon Jackson was purchased by the two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2022 mega auction. The right-handed batter kept himself  under the base price of INR 30 lakh and he was bagged by KKR at a cost of INR 60 lakh. To note, Jackson has been a part of the KKR camp for past several years.

In IPL 2022, the 35-year-old was kept in the playing XI as a prominent wicketkeeper-batter. However, Jackson failed to cash in on the opportunities given to him. The right-handed batter remained unbeaten (3 off 3) in the first encounter against CSK. However, he was cleaned up for a golden duck in the second match against RCB and was dropped from the team in third match against Punjab Kings.

Talking about Jackson IPL numbers, the wicketkeeper-batter has played six IPL matches in which he has scored just 41 runs at an average of 13.67. He plays with a strike rate of 117.14. Jackson has remained unbeaten in two out of five innings he has played in IPL.

6. Rishabh Pant (DC)

Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant had a disappointing outing in first match of the season against the five-time champions Mumbai Indians. Chasing 178,  the Capitals were in all sorts of trouble. However, late antics from Lalit Yadav and Axar Patel tilted the match in DC’s favor.

The skipper came to bat when his side was 30/2 in 3.5 overs and in desperate need of a partnership. However, the Pant was not up to the mark as he managed to score only one run before he was caught off the bowling of pacer Tymal Mills.

Even though his side won the match, Pant will look to put a dominant show in their next encounter. He has played 85 IPL matches in which he has amassed a total of 2499 runs and has an excellent strike rate of 147.35.

7. Raj Bawa (PBKS)

Player of the match in the final of 2022 U-19 World Cup, Raj Bawa was picked up by the Punjab Kings in IPL 2022 mega auction. The 19-year-old kept himself under a base price of INR 20 lakh and ended up getting INR 2 crore to play for the Punjab Kings.

The left-handed batter made his IPL debut against Royal Challengers Bangalore in third match of the season. However, he would like to forget that match as he bagged a golden duck, getting caught right in front of wicket on the bowling off Mohammed Siraj. Although his side won the match, Bawa could not impress anyone with the bat.

In second match against KKR, Bawa had ample time to get his eye in and play an important role for his side. The 19-year-old played cautiously atthe start and also scored a boundary. However, he cleaned up by Sunil Narine at a score of 11 off 13.

8. Shivam Mavi (KKR)

Even though KKR have managed to win two out of three games so far, the Men in Purple have few things to worry about and one of them is runs leaked by their pacers in death overs. Apart from Umesh Yadav, other pacers including Shivam Mavi and Tim Southee have been taken to the cleaners by the opposition batters.

Express pacer, Shivam Mavi had set his base price at INR 4o lakhs for IPL 2022 mega auction. However, the 23-year-old was purchased by the two-time champions at a whopping cost of INR 7.25 crore. The right-arm-pacer has bowled six overs in two matches and has given 74 runs, while scalping only one wicket.

Mavi has played a total of 28 IPL matches in which he has scalped 26 wickets at an economy of 8.56. The 23-year-old will look to improve his performance in the upcoming matches and give justice to his price tag.

It might come as a surprise for many cricket fans to see the name of India’s prominent pacer Jasprit Bumrah name in the list. However, the 28-year-old did not had an ideal start for his campaign in IPL 2022. The right-arm-pacer was thrashed by Delhi Capitals during both field restrictions and death overs in Mumbai Indians’ first match of the season.

The 28-year-old bowled only 3.2 overs in the first match and gave away 43 runs at economy rate of 12.9. The experienced pacer also could not manage to scalp a single wicket for his side. To note, Bumrah was retained by the five-time champions at a cost of INR 12 crore.

Talking about his numbers in IPL, Bumrah has played 107 matches in which he has scalped a total of 130 wickets at an average of 23.38. The right-arm-pacer is very economical as well. Bumrah concedes only 7.47 runs per over in toughest T20 league of the world. A player of his caliber will surely make a comeback and perform well for the five-time champions.

10. Tushar Deshpande (CSK)

Brar gave away 38 runs in three overs he bowled against Royal Challengers Bangalore. The 26-year-old did not have a good outing against KKR as well, as he gave away 20 runs in just two overs he bowled during the second match. The Punjab-born spinner has not been able to get a single wicket so far.

Talking about Brar’s numbers in IPL, the left-arm spinner has played 12 IPL matches in which he has scalped five wickets.
