Dinesh Karthik and Glenn Maxwell smashed fifties as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by 16 runs in Match 27 of IPL 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Karthik was in devastating form as the wicketkeeper batter scored an unbeaten 66 runs off just 34 deliveries with five fours and as many maximums. Josh Hazlewood was the pick of the bowler for RCB as he took 3/28 in his four-over spell.

Speaking about how the match panned out, Faf du Plessis won the toss, and RCB elected to field first. They replaced the returning Harshal Patel with pacer Akash Deep. DC also made a change with Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh replacing Sarfaraz Khan. While skipper Du Plessis amassed just eight runs, his opening partner Anuj Rawat couldn’t even open his account. Virat Kohli’s lean patch in this season continued as he got run-out for 12 runs.

Maxwell then began his ‘Big Show’ as the Aussie international notched up 55 runs off just 34 balls with seven fours and two sixes. Shahbaz Ahmed supported Karthik (66 not out) well as he mustered an unbeaten 32 runs. RCB posted a huge total of 189/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Shardul Thakur was DC’s best bowler as he took 1/27 in his spell.

Chasing 190 to win, seamer Mohammed Siraj dismissed opener, Prithvi Shaw, for 16 runs. David Warner registered yet another fifty and ended up scoring 66 runs off just 38 deliveries with four fours and five sixes. Mitchell Marsh struggled for his 24-balls 14-run knock while  captain Rishabh Pant got out on 34 runs.

Rovman Powell bagged a golden duck with DC’s lower order stretching the team’s score to 173/7. With eight points, RCB moved to third in the table while DC with four points slipped to the eighth spot. For his blistering half-century, Dinesh Karthik was named the Player of the Match.

 100 – Glenn Maxwell appeared in his 100th IPL match.

3 – Dinesh Karthik and Shahbaz Ahmed shared the third-highest sixth-wicket partnership (97*) in the league. Kieron Pollard and Ambati Rayudu scored 122* against Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2012 and David Hussey and Wriddhiman Saha shared 104 runs against Punjab Kings in 2008.

1 – Axar Patel took his first wicket in five matches this IPL campaign.

50 – Kuldeep Yadav featured in his 50th IPL match.

62 – RCB have now conceded 62 sixes this season which is the most by any team. Mumbai Indians are in the second spot for leaking 53 maximums.

151 – Dinesh Karthik reached the milestone of 150 dismissals as a wicketkeeper in IPL. He is the second keeper after MS Dhoni (163) to achieve the feat.

1 – RCB defeated DC for the 17th time in the IPL, which is the most by a team. Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Chennai Super Kings have all won 16 times each.

6.20 – Rovman Powell has scored just 31 runs at an average of just 6.20 in IPL 2022.

3 – RCB won the third consecutive match against DC in the league.

1 – Dinesh Karthik has been dismissed just once in six innings this season.

66 – After scoring 88 runs in the first match, Faf du Plessis has now scored just 66 runs in the last five games.

2 – With 10 50-plus scores against RCB, David Warner is now the batter with second-most 50-plus scores against an opponent. Warner himself is at the top for scoring 11 such scores against Punjab Kings.
