The 32nd match of IPL 2022 witnessed a clash between a Covid-affected Delhi Capitals (DC) and the Punjab Kings (PBKS). The venue of the game was shifted from Pune to the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai as the players could not travel due to Covid-19 positive cases in the team. DC put away all the criticism as they bounced back stronger to achieve a thumping victory over PBKS by nine wickets.

Winning the toss, Rishabh Pant elected to chase in the game. For the Capitals, Sarfaraz Khan had to replace Mitch Marsh after the latter tested positive for the virus. PBKS skipper Mayank Agarwal returned after recovering from his injury and moved along with Nathan Ellis as Prabhsimran Singh and Odean Smith took the bench.

DC bowlers destructed the PBKS batting line-up from the start of the first innings. The game slipped in DC’s favour after they dismissed the PBKS top-order batters in the powerplay. Every decision taken by the skipper proved right today as DC bowlers worked their charm. Except for Agarwal on top and Jitesh Sharma in the middle, no other batter could hold his game strong as PBKS ended up scoring mere 115 runs in 20 overs, losing all wickets.

PBKS failed to defend their score as DC chased it with 57 balls to spare

PBKS bowlers had a big task to do when Prithvi Shaw and David Warner opened the innings for their side. The opening duo scored 81 runs in the powerplay, the highest by any team this season. 70% of the required target was achieved well within six overs. Just when it seemed like the two would finish off the chase without losing their wickets, Rahul Chahar struck in the seventh over and dismissed Shaw for 41(20).

Warner, 60*(30), kept going till the end of the chase as Delhi finished the game in the 11th over with a massive 57 deliveries to spare. PBKS were dished out from the start of the play, as the game was totally one-sided. Axar Patel recorded the best bowling figures in the game as he scalped two wickets in his four-over spell, giving away mere 10 runs. Delhi triumphed even after the tense situation in their camp as they emerged victorious over PBKS, defeating them by a whopping nine wickets.
