The El Classico of IPL brought yet another enthralling night for cricket fans as Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings produced a cracker of a contest. Though both the star franchises have been struggling big time this season, there was not an inch less of entertainment in Navi Mumbai when vintage MS Dhoni finished off things in style. Choosing to bowl first, the yellow army broke the back of MI batters from the very beginning as Mukesh Choudhary wreaked havoc in his venomous spell in the powerplay.

He removed the top order of MI in no time before Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav (32 off 21) pitched in for some rescue act. Varma’s slamming 51 of 43 meant MI posted a respectable total of 155 runs on the board. Choudhary picked three wickets while conceding 19 runs in three overs to pave the best start for his team.

When CSK came up to chase, Ambati Rayudu and Robin Uthappa provided substance in the middle while putting in 40 and 30 runs respectively. However, the equation at the end boiled down to CSK needing 16 of four, and then, Dhoni exactly did what he is best at. Smashing 28* off 13, the greatest finisher gifted another special victory to CSK fans. Talking of MI’s bowling department, Daniel Sams bagged a four-for to his name.

Losing Skipper, Rohit Sharma said:

In the end it was a great fight from us, we were in the game after not batting well, the bowlers kept us in, but in the end you know how towering MSD can be and he took them home. It’s hard to put a finger on anything, but we’re not starting well in the match. If you lose quick wickets, you’ll always be playing the catching game. But I thought we did well to keep them under pressure, we did so until the last over, but Pretorius and Dhoni took them home. We always back ourselves to do well, but as I said, we lost too many early wickets, we did make a good comeback with both bat and ball, but it wasn’t enough in the end

Winning skipper, Ravindra Jadeja said:

We were very tense the way game was going. But the great finisher of the game was still there, so we knew we had a chance. He’s still here and doing it for us. Yes, he (Mukesh) has bowled well upfront and done well for us in the powerplay. If you aren’t winning games, you still want to be calm. (On him dropping catches) It happens, that’s why I never take fielding for granted and practise hard. We need to work on our fielding, can’t afford to drop catches.

Player of the match, Mukesh Choudhary said:

I never thought I’d play cricket. Was at boarding school in Pune, we had an hour’s sports period and I used to play all kinds of sports there. Tried playing cricket and seemed to be good at it. Have to bowl well in the powerplay where I’m supposed to bowl three overs. There is no pressure actually, to play with such big players around you automatically takes all the pressure away. I just want to have a good time and enjoy myself.
