The in-form Gujarat Titans took on the Punjab Kings in the 48th game of the IPL 2022 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Gujarat had their top spot intact on the leaderboard, but Punjab were struggling with moving upward. PBKS were outstanding in the game as they restricted GT to a low total, and chased it with ease to win the game by eight wickets.

The Titans had a mediocre batting performance after winning the toss. The pitch seemed like a batting utopia at the start , however, Shubman Gill (9 off 6) could not do much as he was run out trying to sneak in a single. Before being dismissed, Wriddhiman Saha (21 off 17) batted really well, but the Punjab Kings had the grip over the Titans once skipper Hardik Pandya 1 (7) walked off. There was a need for a revival, which was somewhat provided by Sai Sudharsan later in the game.

David Miller (11 off 14) hunkered down in an attempt to boost the scoring rate, a task assumed by Sudharsan (65* off 50), who took on whatever was available. Gradually, he increased his scoring pace, giving the Titans hope of moving past the 150-run mark, but Kagiso Rabada had other plans as he put another wrench in the works, scalping four wickets in the game.

PBKS batters shine after bowlers restrict GT to a low score

PBKS had to chase a par total of 144 runs when Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow opened the innings. Bairstow’s rough patch continued as he walked back scoring just a single run before Dhawan and Bhanuka Rajapaksa took the game forward. Rajapaksa’s 28-ball 40 helped PBKS to cut their chase short while he was supported by Dhawan, who brought up a glorious fifty.

It was Liam Livingstone who provided the finishing touch in the game as he smashed Mohammad Shami for five boundaries in the 16th over of the game, which included three sixes and two fours. He hit the longest six of the season (117m) and remained unbeaten on 30* off just 10 balls to finish off the game. Dhawan finished unbeaten, scoring a 53-ball 62* as PBKS emerged victorious.
