Rajasthan Royals are up and running in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. The inaugural season champions put up a clinical show against Sunrisers Hyderabad and walked away with an emphatic 61-run triumph. The margin of victory could have been even more colossal, had number-eight batter Washington Sundar not played a 14-ball 40 blinder towards the end.

Notably, this was the opening game of both teams this season and needless to mention, both camps were looking for a win. The coin landed in SRH’s favour and Kane Williamson didn’t have any hesitation in bowling first at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. RR openers Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal embraced the challenge and made optimum utilization of the powerplay overs.

The duo played fiery cameos before handing over the baton to skipper Sanju Samson and Devdutt Padikkal. The duo carried on the momentum as SRH bowlers looked utterly clueless. Notably, Padikkal has been an opener for the major part of his career and batting at number four was a new challenge for him. The southpaw repaid the trust of the team management and scored a 29-ball 41. On the other hand, Samson advanced to a fiery half-century.

A sensational cameo from Shimron Hetmyer meant RR posted 210/6 in their allotted 20 overs. In reply, the Orange Army lost skipper Kane Williamson in the very second over of the innings courtesy of a controversial catch from Padikkal. The rest of the batters couldn’t do much either as Prasidh Krishna and Yuzvendra Chahal were brilliant with the ball.

A fighting half-century from Aiden Markram and an entertaining 40 from Washington Sundar ensured SRH’s margin of defeat isn’t that massive. In the end, SRH posted 149/7 in their allotted 20 overs as the Men in Pink opened their account with a stunning win. Meanwhile, netizens also came up with hilarious memes as RR crushed SRH in their opening fixture.
