The 50th clash of the IPL 2022 saw the Delhi Capitals lock horns with the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Both the teams were coming off a loss from their previous games and a victory was very vital at this stage. Rishabh Pant-led Capitals overpowered the Kane Williamson-led Orange Army to win the contest by 21 runs.

SRH started the game on a high note by sending Mandeep Singh (0 off 5) and Mitchell Marsh (10 off 7) off the field in the powerplay. David Warner and Rishabh Pant anchored the innings adding some quick runs on board. Pant (26 off 16) put up a thrilling cameo before being scalped by Shreyas Gopal. The skipper was on a roll when he took on Gopal as he smashed him for 22 runs in the ninth over, but the latter had the last laugh.

Just when SRH thought they had the upper hand in the contest, Warner was joined by Rovman Powell as the two wreaked havoc sharing a partnership of 122*(66). Warner had a winning motive against his former team as he went on to knock an unbeaten 92*(58). Powell was a brilliant partner for Warner as he capitalized on the promotion, by hitting a well-composed 67*(35) which included his finishing touches in the final over. Umran Malik clocked the fastest delivery of the IPL 2022 but remained wicketless as he was hit for 52 runs during his spell.

Nicholas Pooran’s half-century in vain as DC bowlers put curtains on SRH’s chase

SRH had a big total of 208 runs to chase when openers Abhishek Sharma (7 off 6) and Kane Williamson (4 off 11) started with the second innings. But Khaleel Ahmed and Anrich Nortje provided their team with the crucial breakthroughs by sending the openers back to the pavilion. Rahul Tripathi (22 off 18), who walked into the game in the second over, started well but failed to deliver a big knock. It was Aiden Markram (42 off 25) and Nicholas Pooran who kept the ship sailing for SRH, keeping their hopes alive with a crucial partnership.

Even after Markram’s exit, Pooran (62 off 34) kept finding the gaps at regular intervals and placed the boundaries perfectly. His dismissal put curtains on SRH’s run as the all-rounders and lower-order batters could not keep the game going. DC bowlers kept the SRH batting lineup in check as they restricted them to 186/8 at the end of the clash, winning the game by 21 runs.
