The Indian Premier League (IPL) has proved to be a game-changer in the world of cricket. This league has grown to a great extent each year and continues to entertain the fans. Many players have displayed their class in the tournament and have created milestones in the process. In this article, we will be discussing the performance of 6 players who have scored the most half-centuries in the cash-rich league.
New South Wales-born David Warner, who has represented Delhi Capitals (DC) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), is the most successful batter in the history in terms of fifties scored. In total, the southpaw has recorded a stunning 61 half-centuries in the process of amassing 6,397 runs at an average of 41.53. The left-handed batter is also the highest run-getter among overseas players and third-highest overall, making him one of the most prominent names in the prestigious league.
Virat Kohli is joint-second with Shikhar Dhawan for smashing 50 half-centuries in the league. The right-handed batter is also the first to breach the 7,000-run mark in IPL. The RCB veteran has amassed 7263 runs in 229 innings at an average of 37.24 which also includes six centuries.
Shikhar Dhawan is tied with Kohli at the second position for hitting 50 half-centuries in the league. He has scored 6617 runs at an average of 35.38 and strike rate of 127.17 thus far. He was instrumental in helping Delhi Capitals reach the finals in 2020, and has been doing well in the previous two seasons as well.
Mumbai Indians' face Rohit Sharma takes the fourth position with 42 fifties in total. The Nagpur-born has led Mumbai to 5 titles till now and has 6211 runs in the league. He started his IPL journey with Deccan Chargers in 2008 and was bought by Mumbai Indians in 2011 auctions.
AB de Villiers with 40 fifties in IPL is the second overseas player in this record tally. The wicketkeeper-batter along with Virat Kohli were the backbone of the Royal Challengers Bangalore squad. The Proteas player has scored 5162 runs in 170 innings with an impressive strike rate of 151.68.
Suresh Raina, who has been a consistent performer in the cash-rich league, smashed 39 fifties before calling off on his IPL career. He has accumulated over 5,500 runs as he is also termed as 'Mr.IPL'. The UP-born was a key player at the top order for CSK since the first season of the IPL, and has also captained Gujarat Lions (GL) during the 2016–17 editions.
