IPL 2022: Rating teams based on performances till league stage

The Indian Premier League has entered its final phase this week. With multiple teams battling it out, the top four teams will now compete for the top spot. This year, the fans have witnessed numerous highs and lows.

Well, talking about the lows, nobody had expected MI to finish at the bottom of the table. But, their lack of solid performers meant that they were not able to close the game up in tight situations. This was a horrible season as per MI standards.

And if we have a look at the best performers of the season, then it has to be the new franchises. With two new teams, it was difficult for them to make a mark. But, in difficult circumstances, their players have stood up for their team.

10. Mumbai Indians: 2/10

Arguably, it was their worst season. MI had a horrible start as they lost consecutive games. It was evident that they were never settled as a squad and this hampered their performance.

Adding on, failure at the top order meant that they always had to rely on the middle and lower orders to handle the pressure. But, it was too much for them and with lack of overall experience, they used to crumble under pressure as well. Talking about prominent players, Suryakumar Yadav played a few attractive knocks, but he was injured during the last phase of the group stage.

The bowling department did well on most occasions. Jasprit Bumrah was spot on and was assisted perfectly by the likes of Riley Meredith. There is no doubt that they will transform into a stronger team later, with the inclusion of Jofra Archer. But, they could have done better, both in the auction and in the league stage. They won just four games out of 14 in the league stage.
