IPL 2022: Teams which spent most in mega auction

We are done and dusted with the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction and all 10 squads have been finalized. While several players went massive under the hammer and earned hefty contracts, many prominent names didn’t get a single bid and went unsold. It must be noted that the eight existing sides were allowed to retain a maximum of four players ahead of the auction event. As far as the two new sides are concerned, they selected three cricketers apiece from the list of non-retained players. All sides were allotted a purse of INR 90 crore. However, they entered the bidding event with different amounts, depending upon the players they picked in the retention and draft.

Ishan Kishan bagged the biggest deal in IPL 2022 mega auction:

The bidding event was certainly action-packed as several players went big under the hammer. In fact, for the first time in history, a total of 11 players fetched INR 10 crore or over in an IPL auction. Among those, Ishan Kishan was the most expensive as Mumbai Indians had to splash a whooping INR 15.25 crore to get him on board.

Deepak Chahar, Shreyas Iyer, Liam Livingstone, Harshal Patel, Shardul Thakur, Wanindu Hasaranga,  Nicholas Pooran,  Avesh Khan, Lockie Ferguson and Prasidh Krishna are the other names in the INR 10 crore club. Speaking of the shockers, prominent names like Suresh Raina, Eoin Morgan and Shakib Al Hasan went unsold.

Meanwhile, it must be noted that Lucknow Super Giants were the only team to exhaust their entire purse amount in the auction event. Punjab Kings, who entered the event with the biggest purse of INR 72 crore, remained on top in terms of most money remaining after the auction. Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore were the only other sides to have saved over INR 1 crore.
