IPL 2022: Updated Points Table, Orange and Purple Cap lists after DC vs KKR

Delhi Capitals (DC) were handed a comfortable victory by the two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) during a group stage encounter of IPL played at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on April 28 (Thursday). The Capitals dominated the Men in Purple and handed DC an easy victory.

DC skipper Rishabh Pant won the toss and opted to field first. The opening combination of Aaron Finch and Venkatesh Iyer failed as they both looked clueless in front of the disciplined bowling line-up of DC. Debutant Baba Indrajith failed to get going as well.

Skipper Shreyas Iyer played a decent knock of 42, but he was scalped by former KKR spinner Kuldeep Yadav. Left-handed batter Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh ensured that KKR finish on 146/9 in their allotted 20 overs. For DC, Kuldeep Yadav (four wickets), Mustafizur Rahman (three wickets), Chetan Sakariya (one wicket), and left-arm spinner Axar Patel (one wicket) were the successful bowlers.

KKR bowlers showed some grit during the second innings

KKR had immediate success as Umesh Yadav removed opener Prithvi Shaw on the first ball of the chase. Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh was sent back to the pavilion soon as well. However, opener David Warner and Lalit Yadav steadied DC’s innings.

However, KKR bowlers were not giving up soon as they sent back Lalit Yadav, Warner, and skipper Rishabh Pant in quick succession. Left-handed batter Axar Patel played a short but sweet knock of 24, before getting run out. It was then West Indies all-rounder Rovman Powell and Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur who guided DC to victory.

After tonight’s victory against KKR, DC now finds itself in sixth place. Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans (GT), Rajasthan Royals (RR), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) complete the top four teams in the points table.
