The IPL 2025 is one of the most highly anticipated events of the year, as it marks the first season of the league following the mega auction held in November last year. Teams have retained some of their most consistent performers while also signing new players in the hope of winning the coveted title.
With the competition being intense, tempers can flare. However, some teams have consistently maintained their composure in pressure situations. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is one such team, having won the Fair Play Award on six occasions. The legendary MS Dhoni, known for staying “cool as a cucumber” in crunch moments, led the team in each of those six seasons.
In IPL 2024, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), who finished as runners-up under Pat Cummins' captaincy, won the Fair Play Award for the third time. Interestingly, defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have never won this award.

Among the IPL franchises, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have topped the Fair Play standings with the most number of times. The five-time IPL champions have also clinched this honour a record six times (2008, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015). The Hyderabad-based franchise and the Rajasthan Royals are close second with three awards each. Notably, in the 18 seasons played so far, only eight teams have topped the Fair Play standings. With the 2025 season approaching, teams will once again be seen fighting for the IPL title and playing the game in the right spirit.
Who has won the Fair Play Award the maximum number of times in the IPL?
The most successful team in terms of having won the maximum number of Fair Play Awards is the five-time IPL winners, Chennai Super Kings. In the last 17 seasons, CSK have won this award a record six times in the 2008, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, and 2015 editions, respectively.
Rajasthan Royals (2012 & 2021), Sunrisers Hyderabad (2016 & 2019), and Mumbai Indians (2018 & 2020) have won this award twice. Punjab Kings and the now-defunct Gujarat Lions had won in the 2009 and 2017 editions.
As far as the IPL 2024 Fair Play Award table is concerned, runners-up Sunrisers Hyderabad claimed the award with 173 points.
