Sunrisers Hyderabad’s campaign in the 2021 edition of the IPL is going from bad to worse with every passing game. The ‘Orange Army’ suffered their 8th loss in 9 matches in IPL 2021, and went down to the Punjab Kings by 5 runs.

Chasing a gettable target of 126, the SRH batsmen went into a shell. David Warner failed yet again, and scored just 2, while skipper Kane Williamson could score just a solitary run. Manish Pandey scratched his way to a painstaking 23-ball 13, and Kedar Jadhav was dismissed for a run-a-ball 12.

Wridhimann Saha scored a sluggish 31 off 37 deliveries. And, in spite of Jason Holder’s pyrotechnics with the bat, where the West Indian scored a fighting 47* off 29 deliveries, the SRH side bottled up the match. On the bowling front, Ravi Bishnoi scalped 3 wickets for the Punjab side, while Mohammed Shami chipped in with a couple of wickets.

Batting first, the Punjab Kings side scored 125/7 in 20 overs. The KL Rahul-led side relied on small yet valuable contributions from its batsmen. None of the Punjab batsmen could cross the 30-run mark, but as many as six batsmen scored in double figures for the KL Rahul-led side.

Aiden Markram top-scored for the Punjab outfit, scoring a patient 32-ball 27. Jason Holder was outstanding with the ball in hand for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) side. The tall right-arm pacer scalped 3 wickets in his quota of 4 overs and leaked only 19 runs. With this win, the Punjab Kings side has moved to 5th place, while the Sunrisers Hyderabad side is occupying the last place.

Delhi Capitals beat Rajasthan Royals comfortably by 33 runs

In the afternoon match, the Delhi Capitals (DC) proved to be superior to the Rajasthan Royals (RR) side and beat their opposition by 33 runs without breaking much sweat. Batting first, the Rishabh Pant-led side posted a total of 154/6 on the board.

Shreyas Iyer was the star performer with the willow for the Delhi side. The right-handed batsman scored a classy 32-ball 43, and his innings consisted of 1 four and 2 sixes. West Indian Shimron Hetmyer provided momentum for the Delhi side in his short 16-ball stay and hammered 28 runs.

In reply, the Rajasthan side kept losing wickets at regular intervals. In fact, the Rajasthan innings was all about one man, Sanju Samson. The RR skipper waged a lone battle and scored a fighting 70* off 53 deliveries. But, he received no support from his teammates, and the ‘Men in Pink’ could only manage to muster a total of 121/6 in 20 overs.

Anrich Nortje was the pick of the bowlers for the Delhi Capitals. The right arm tearaway pacer picked up 2 wickets in the 4 overs that he bowled, and gave away 18 runs. With this victory, the Delhi Capitals have once again moved to the top of the IPL points table, while the Rajasthan side is occupying 7th place.
