The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) sacked the head coach Daniel Vettori along with the support staff following the poor performance from the team. The batting and fielding coach Trent Woodhill and the bowling Andrew McDonald have been discontinued ahead of the next season. However, the franchise is looking to rope in Team India’s assistant coach Sanjay Bangar as Vettori’s replacement.

Bangar is currently in England and according to the rules set, he cannot join any IPL franchise while being associated with the national team. It comes under the Conflict of Interest clause and even Rahul Dravid had resigned as the coach of the Delhi Daredevils (DD) after he was appointed at the helm of the India A and U19 teams.

Kirsten also in line

According to the reports in Mumbai Mirror, Sanjay Bangar is the first choice of the franchise with former South Africa cricketer Gary Kirsten also in line to replace Vettori. Kirsten has worked as the batting consultant of RCB before and has the experience of leading the MS Dhoni-led Team India to World Cup victory in 2011. Moreover, Ashish Nehra has been retained as the bowling mentor of the team and it is being reported that Virat Kohli will have his say in selecting the new coach.

RCB has been struggling even to qualify for the playoffs and this year, they promised a lot with a new rejigged team. But it was a same old story again with none of them putting their hand up apart from the star players AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli.

They finished at the 6th position in the points table after 14 matches with 12 points to their name and the team is yet to claim their maiden title. However, it remains to be seen if the new coach will make any difference to the fortunes of the team next year.
