Joshua Little, the left-arm seamer was recalled in Ireland’s squad for their ongoing T20I series versus India, which is currently taking place at the Malahide Cricket Ground. However, the bowler suffered an injury owing to which he has withdrawn himself from the event. The 18-year old bowler didn’t play the opening match. Further insights on the injury are still awaited.

Meanwhile, the national selectors have decided not to announce a replacement of Little. Rather, they have roped in 20-year old David Delany as a part of their development strategy. Delany is yet to make his international debut, but has an experience of two first-class, as many List A and six T20s. The right-arm medium fast bowler has seven wickets in those matches.

“We need to look at creative ways”- Performance Director

“The national selectors and coaching staff of the senior men’s team are implementing a new initiative to provide opportunities for young players to gain experience being involved in the dynamics of the senior squad as part of their development.

We successfully trialled this on the recent trip to Sussex by bringing in Harry Tector, and this week we will use this circumstance to provide David a development opportunity,” Richard Holdsworth, the Performance Director for Cricket Ireland, was quoted as saying in Cricketworld.

“The expanding programme of fixtures over the next four years means we need to look at creative ways of increasing the talent pool of players ready to take that next step in their careers.

These development opportunities provide invaluable experience and insights for or younger players, which is in the long-term interests of Irish cricket,” he added.

After Ireland’s defeat by 76 runs in the opening T20I, Little may have got an opportunity to display his prowess. He donned the national colors for the maiden time back in September 2016 when the Irishmen crossed swords with Hong Kong at Bready.

His last contest was versus Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi back in January 2017. He was also a part of the national U19 team, which played the World Cup in New Zealand.
