Ireland batsman Sean Terry has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket at the age of 26. His retirement decision at a young age came as a shock. Sean represented Western Australia at t Under 19 level before representing Hampshire and Northamptonshire. He wants to start a new chapter in his life.

Sean Terry was born in Southampton before moving to Australia. He is the son of former England batsman Paul Terry. After announcing his retirement, he said that playing for his Irish team as the proudest moment of his life and he is going to cherish those moments in the coming days of his life.

“It is with a heavy heart that I have decided to call time on my cricketing journey,” added Terry as quoted by Cricbuzz. “Playing cricket for Ireland was undoubtedly the proudest moment of my life and something that I will always cherish.”

He represented in 19 first-class games by scoring 713 runs with seven fifties. In List A, he has three fifties from 21 games and he also featured in seven T20s. Ireland Cricket’s performance director Richard Holdsworth was disappointed with Terry’s ‘shock’ decision at a young age. Richard felt that Terry had adapted well to the Irish set-up and respected his decision to quit from all forms of the game.

“He was certainly part of our talent development pool and had already been capped in the white-ball game on six occasions,” Holdsworth told. “We identified Sean’s talents early and took every opportunity to integrate him into our player pathway programme as soon as he had declared for Ireland in 2016. We thought he had adapted well to the Irish set-up but, equally, we respect his decision, difficult as it must have been, and we wish him all the best with the next stage of his career outside of cricket.”
