At the age of 33, one would say that Irfan Pathan certainly has a lot of cricket left in him. With the likes of Ashish Nehra and several others making comebacks at the ages of 36 and 37, Pathan is still aiming to make a comeback. Having made his debut at the age of 19 down under, Pathan was left out of the Indian side following a terrible run of form.

This debacle continued and has continued into the IPL as well when he was not awarded a contract in the premier T20 competition. This eventually saw him take up a coaching role with Jammu & Kashmir cricket. Recently, Pathan had made an appearance in the Punjab Cricket academy in a bid to promote the sport within the state. Speaking about the same, Pathan added that

“Punjab has produced several international cricket stars who made the nation proud on foreign soil, but the main motive to open this academy in one of the biggest cities of Punjab is to bring out more such talented players who can contribute to the Indian cricket team, like former players. With the advanced coaching skills, the coach will polish the raw talent across the state and offer them impeccable infrastructure, and carefully watch their performance.”

Making a comeback is on the cards

When quizzed about what his plans were as he reaches the twilight of his career, Irfan said that he was indeed doing everything he could to make a comeback to the Indian side.

“I am also trying my best to come back to the Indian cricket team. My message for the city’s youth is that they should give the same importance to sports as they are giving to other activities because sports is necessary for the overall development of the youth.”
