Indian allrounder Irfan Pathan has delivered a lot of memorable matches whenever he has played for the national team. Right from his debut in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2003 to the hat-trick against Pakistan and his heroics in the 2007 T20 World Cup, Irfan has played some outstanding games for India.

His passion for the game and the country shines through his performances for the team. Coming from a humble background, Irfan started off by playing in the backyard of a Mosque rather than the ground but fell into the right hands of the former Indian captain Datta Gaekwad. He rose through the ranks and made it all the way to the Indian team playing all his domestic cricket for Baroda.

Irfan Pathan was at an event in Nagpur when he shared an interesting yet wonderful tale while playing for the national team. He publicized the incident that happened during the Pakistan tour. A girl approached Irfan while in Lahore and asked the most preposterous question ever. She asked the Indian that why did he play for India even when he was a Muslim.

Irfan replied, “It is a matter of pride for me to play for India. That incident still motivates me to do better. Although there are many moments during my career that do give me reasons to feel proud of my effort.”

There were endless topics Irfan spoke on but this is one of the best stories you will hear. The passion he has for his country is immense and commendable. His performances have always spoken for the good, may it be his first over hat-trick against the arch-rivals Pakistan or his quickfire fifties while batting up the order. Guddu, as he is known fondly, has always given his all while playing for India.

Irfan has scored over 1800 runs and taken 301 wickets for the country. He has represented India 29 times in Tests and 120 times in One Day Internationals.
