Controversies regarding the richest cricket board in the world, the Board of Control for Cricket in Inda (BCCI), seem to grow with each passing day. A hearing has been scheduled by the Supreme Court of India on Friday (March 24) in relation to the Indian board. The matter of concerns that will be discussed and heard in the court includes the implementation of the Justice Lodha panel’s recommendations and the central government seeking the restoration of voting rights of the three cricket associations under BCCI that fall under their purview Railways, Services and the Association of Indian Universities.

The hearing was scheduled in front of the bench comprising Justice Dipak Misra on Monday (March 20) but were unable to get it down on the same day. Hence the three-member bench composed of Justice Dipak Misra himself and Justice AM Khanwilkar and Justice DY Chandrachud will now deal with the matter on Friday. Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi will brief the court on the issues for 2 hours, prior to the hearing. The hearing will commence from 2 pm.

Senior counsel Kapil Sibal who represents the BCCI in the SC expressed his difficulty in continuing his presence in the court since they had to attend the funeral of senior counsel Anil Divan on Friday who passed away on Monday morning.

Hence, Sibal requested the court to consider the fact and announce another date. Earlier on January 3 SC had appointed Divan to recommend the names for the Committee of Administrators (CoA) for the Indian cricket board that would oversee and supervise the functioning of the BCCI.

SC had appointed the COA that was constituted by former Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) Vinod Rai, cricket historian Ramachandra Guha, MD of Infrastructure Development Fiance Company (IDFC) Vikram Limaye, and former Indian women team captain Diana Edulji.
