'It is a good thought' - Saba Karim lauds Indian management for trying different strategies

Former Indian cricketer Saba Karim has praised the Indian management for being proactive in T20I cricket, which he thinks is evolving. He pointed out that the way Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has performed in T20Is lately is wonderful to watch. Rohit smashed a fifty in the opening T20I match against West Indies but was bowled out on a golden duck in the next match at Warner Park in St Kitts. Rohit had a back spasm while batting against West Indies in the third T20I match on Tuesday, which forced him to retire hurt after playing just five balls. But the opening batter managed to give India a flying start by hitting 11 runs with the help of one four and a six. It also makes sense to be more sensible in the approach: Saba Karim India won the third match by seven wickets while chasing a challenging target of 165 runs, thanks to a brilliant fifty from opener Suryakumar Yadav. West Indies left-arm pacer Obed McCoy took six wickets in the second match but failed to leave a similar impact in this match. Karim praised India’s sensible approach on a tough track, which proved troublesome for Indian batters in the second match. “The T20 game is kind of evolving and we need to keep pace with the fast nature of the format. So, I think keeping this in mind, it is a good thought from the Indian team management, especially from the captain to lead the way. The way he has played in T20 cricket over the past few games, it’s wonderful to watch Rohit Sharma and company play in that kind of a manner. But at times on a tough track like what we saw yesterday (in the second T20I vs West Indies), it also makes sense to be more sensible in the approach,” Saba Karim said on Sports18’s show ‘Sports Over The Top’. Meanwhile, there is no official update on Rohit’s availability for the next two matches and losing their captain can be a massive blow for the visitors. Notably, both India and West Indies will travel to the USA for the last two matches, scheduled in Florida on the 6th and 7th of August. India rank first in ICC T20I charts and are strong contenders to win the upcoming 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia.
