Bangladesh won the first-ever T20I against India on 3rd of November in Delhi and Mushfiqur Rahim turned out to be the architect in team’s historic win. He has been the part of the national team in every T20I played against India since 2009. It took almost a decade for the Tigers in order to taste their maiden win against the neighbouring country in the shortest format.

Many occasions came when Bangladesh played some close matches against India but failed to cross the winning line. The win in the first T20I means a lot for Mushafiqur Rahim, who had faced a heartbreaking one-run defeat against India back in 2016 World T20 encounter in Bengaluru.

It was the match when Rahim celebrated before winning due to his overconfidence that let him down and ended on the losing side. Later on, he got criticized by the cricketing fraternity for his poor act on the field.

Mushfiqur Rahim finally wins it for Bangladesh

In the post-match press conference, Rahim said that he had played many close encounters against India but had never won. So, they were pretty sure that if next time they come across a similar situation, the team will try to win it (pointing towards one-run defeat that came in 2016 World T20). The 32-year-old wicketkeeper also recited that before leaving his country, he explained to the players that everything can come back on the track if they win a couple of games.

“We have had a lot of close games against India. So we promised ourselves that the next time we go into such a phase of the game, we don’t want to lose. Before I left Bangladesh, I had said that everything can come on the right track if we win some matches. That’s what we have done and we will try to continue this form,” Mushfiqur Rahim said during the press conference.

The right-handed batsman also added that it is a great moment for Bangladesh as it was their maiden win. Also, he pointed out towards the absence of some key players from the team.

“It is a great moment for Bangladesh. We didn’t win before against them in T20 form before. We are missing couple of our key players but they way young players stuck together and the way bowlers bowled on this track especially against India, it’s outstanding.” Rahim added. The next T20I will be played in Rajkot on the 7th of November at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium.
