The England team was comprehensively beaten in the first of the three One-Day Internationals at Pune. Despite achieving their best ever score in ODIs they were handed a defeat by the Indians. They already trail the series 1-0 which makes the second ODI at Cuttack ever so important. What happened in Pune hasn’t deterred the visitors and vice-captain Jos Buttler unsurprisingly sounded positive ahead of the game.

They are optimistic and believe that despite being 1-0 down they have the potential as a team to change the scoreline to 2-1. “As a side if we can come from 1-0 down and win the series 2-1, obviously we’ve got to progress one game at a time but I think it is great that we can get that excitement, not just for myself but for the group that straight away tomorrow is a knockout type of a game. I think that’s a real motivation.” Buttler said.

The wicketkeeper-batsman was with the English team when they were handed a 4-0 thrashing in the five-match Test by the Indians before this ODI series. “We’ve lost the first match, so straight away it’s a knock-out game for us tomorrow. Looking ahead, there’s a tournament coming up in the summer and it’s fantastic to be under the pressure.”

Indian skipper Virat Kohli once again proved that he is the best in business when it comes to chasing. He scored a magnificent century, scoring 122 off 105 deliveries which helped India carve a historic win over the brits. “He (Kohli) occupies as much space as anyone else. He’s been in fantastic form for a long period of time. His record is very good. Guys constantly have been coming up with plans for him,” Buttler said.

When it comes to playing cricket in a country, Buttler felt India is the best. “There’s no place like India to come and play cricket. It is a fantastic experience for someone to cherish and really embrace. The atmosphere the other day in Pune (first ODI) was fantastic. The quieter it is, it’s better for us. It’s a fantastic challenge for us and a really enjoyable one,” he concluded.
