Much like every other parent, Dinesh Lad, who has coached many leading Indian cricketers including the likes of Rohit Sharma and Shardul Thakur, wants his son Siddhesh Lad to be successful in his profession, which is cricket indeed. After a scintillating domestic season for Mumbai, Siddhesh has recently named in India A squad for the Quadrangular series, which involves South A and Australia A, which starts next month.

The young Mumbai cricketer has had the honor of learning the game very much closely from his mentor-father and now the Sr. Lad wants to be proudly be known as his son Siddhesh’s coach.

Siddhesh has realized the importance of staying at the wicket: Dinesh

In a recent conversation, Siddhesh’s father and coach Dinesh Lad mentioned that his son has shown a lot of improvement in his game in the recent times. He revealed that Siddhesh has realized that barring playing attacking game, it is also very important to occupy the crease for a considerable time to play longer innings for his team. The father also reckoned that the time has come, when people must also know Dinesh Lad as the coach of Siddhesh Lad.

“I feel happy when people address me as Rohit and Shardul Thakur’s coach. But if people also know me as Siddhesh’s coach, it will be a huge thing for me. He had a natural flair for playing an attacking game, but now, he has realized the importance of sticking to the wicket. He can attack when he wants but at the same time, he can defend, too,” said Dinesh in a conversation with Sportstar.

I am very happy that my son is getting trained by one of my best students

Siddhesh amassed 652 runs at an impressive average of 59.27 in the Ranji Trophy 2017-18 season and also scored 373 runs at an average of 62.16 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018. He was picked up by the Mumbai Indians in the 2018 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction but did not get a game in the season. After being selected in the Rohit-led IPL side, Dinesh revealed that he was happy that his son is being guided by one of his best students.

“He didn’t get a game because he didn’t fit into their combination but Rohit always had good things to say about Siddhesh. I was tension-free as he was being looked after by one of my best students. The net sessions with Rohit helped him a lot when he came out to bat in the domestic season,” added Siddhesh’s father on his IPL stint.

The coach also reckoned that Siddhesh has a much similar technique to Rohit and he can excel in the game just like him in the future. He mentioned that currently, he teaches his son the only important learning of respecting the game of cricket and being loyal to it.

“He knows how to do it. The only thing I tell him is that whatever he has today is because of the game, so he needs to remain loyal to cricket come what may. Technique-wise, he is very similar to Rohit. My patent shot is cover drive and the way Rohit hits it. Siddhesh is getting there,” concluded the Sr. Lad.
