Speaking of Pakistan’s coach, Misbah-ul-Haq, who also happens to be their chief selector, has come under scrutiny after his PSL franchise Islamabad United endured a horrendous campaign in the recently concluded fifth edition. Misbah’s team could garner just seven points in ten games and since then questions have galore regarding his credentials as a coach.
However, PCB Chief Operating Officer, Wasim Khan, isn’t perturbed by all the scepticism around Misbah. Khan told the media recently that the reason why they allowed Misbah to coach Islamabad United despite a huge conflict of interest, was so that he could gain some invaluable experience.
“We have confidence in him and that is we allowed him to coach the Islamabad franchise as we wanted him to gain some experience as well in this position. You must keep in mind while he is the coach of the Pakistan team full-time he only joined the Islamabad franchise a few days before the PSL. We wanted it to be a learning experience for him as head coach,” Khan said as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
Misbah-ul-Haq was appointed the Head Coach as well as the chief selector of the Pakistan cricket team last September following the resignations of Micky Arthur and Inzamam Ul Haq after Pakistan’s underwhelming campaign in the 2019 World Cup.
