Over the years, the pace merchant Jasprit Bumrah has established himself as a mainstay of India’s bowling line-up. Since his debut in the international circuit in 2016, the right-arm pacer has made heads turn with his raw pace and variation. Bumrah is considered one of the greatest, if not the greatest, death bowlers of the modern era.

Bumrah has now received a big compliment from New Zealand’s best fast bowler since Sir Richard Hadlee, Shane Bond. On Friday, May 14, Bumrah’s IPL franchise Mumbai Indians (MI) released a video on their official Twitter handle where Bumrah and Bond spoke about their bond with each other. Shane is the bowling coach of the five-time champion while Bumrah has been associated with MI since 2013.

Speaking about Jasprit Bumrah, the bowling coach couldn’t help but praise the Indian speedster as he hailed him as the world’s best death bowler. “Jasprit Bumrah is the world’s best death bowler. And I think he will be remembered for that,” Bond said during an interview with Mumbai Indians TV.

I always try to talk to Shane Bond, even when I am with the Indian team: Bumrah

Further in the interaction, Bumrah spoke at lengths regarding the relationship he shares with the New Zealand veteran. The 27-year-old revealed that he met Bond in 2015 and the veteran has played a major role in helping him improve his bowling. Also, the seamer spoke about his admiration for Shane saying that as a child he was fascinated with the way Bond executed his game and hopes that their good relationship continues for years to come.

“I met him for the first time in 2015. As a child, I had seen him bowl and was always fascinated with how he used to bowl for New Zealand and how he used to operate. When I met him over here, it was a good experience. He helped me a lot to open my mind to different things that I could try on the field. That was very good and the relationship has only gotten better each and every year,” Bumrah said in a video posted by Mumbai Indians.

“I always try to talk to him, even when I am not here and with the Indian team. It has been a good journey and hopefully every year, I keep learning something new and try to add new things to my bowling. He has played a major role in that. It’s been a great relationship and hopefully, this continues for many years to come,” he added.
