Javed Miandad, Sarfraz Nawaz not on invitee list for PSL Final

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Pakistan Super League (PSL) working committee have given a cold ignore to some of the big names of Pakistan cricket for the PSL finals. Among the most notable ones, former Pakistani cricketers Javed Miandad and Sarfraz Nawaz have not been invited to watch the finals of the second edition of the PSL at Lahore. International cricket and the players have avoided travelling Pakistan ever since the terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team bus back in 2009.

No top team toured the country since then. Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, and Kenya were the only exceptions to have toured the country for limited overs series. In an attempt to bring back the game to the country, the PCB and the PSL committee were keen on hosting the PSL finals in Lahore this year.

Things looked set for Pakistan cricket but the recent string of terrorist attacks in the various parts of the country had raise a few doubtful starters for the same. However, the Pakistan government announced the finals will indeed be played at Lahore and gave a green signal to the PSL working committee. However, there were a few big names in Pakistan cricket who had opposed the idea of hosting the finals in Lahore.

Former skipper Imran Khan had noted that in case something unwanted happens then that could potentially see the country abandoned from the world of cricket. Javed Miandad had also voiced his concerns on the same. “I have been saying this for the last three days that there is no need to hold the final in Lahore owing to security situation,” Miandad had quoted.

Apparently, it was his comments that did not go down well with the PSL committee and PCB. While a long list of VIPs have been invited to witness cricket back in Pakistan at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Javed Miandad and Sarfraz Nawaz have been ignored. Some of the former officials of the PCB have also been overlooked from the invitee list.
