The Women’s cricket around the globe is on a steady rise since the last five years and the same trend is being followed by the cricket-crazy country of India. The Indian Women’s cricket team is making headlines day in and day out. The Indian fans have started showing up in the grounds for Women’s international matches in the past few years. These are indeed exciting times for the future generations of women cricketers in the country.

There are many popular faces in the Indian Women’s team right now but the funniest and wittiest among them all is the young sensation from Mumbai, Jemimah Rodrigues. The Bhandup resident has made headlines in the media performing all over the world in Women’s cricket. She is one of those ladies who is always active on her social media platforms viz. Twitter and Instagram.

Yes, sometimes social media helps you gain wider popularity when you are performing so well for your country but sometimes it can bring you down that’s for sure. There will always be some haters blaming or criticizing you especially if you are a national sportsperson. That’s the reason many of the professional cricketers don’t bother replying to these type of comments or even reading them.

A similar kind of scenario happened with Rodrigues. Recently, the Indian batter started a direct question-answer session with her Twitter followers. When the session was going on, one of her Twitter well-wishers doubted her nationality and even asked her to explain if she is truly an Indian or she is from another origin as her Portuguese surname doesn’t suggest that she is an Indian.

Most of the cricketers usually opt to skip these type of controversial questions but Jemimah is not a person who is going to back off in these situations. She always carries a humour on and off the field. She gave a witty reply to the person who was asking, “#AskJem Are you 100% Indian? Explain you surname? @JemiRodrigues.” Jemimah replied by tweeting, “Surname toh Portuguese hai, Phirbhidilhai Hindustani”

On the playing front, Rodrigues has been a force to reckon in Indian Women’s side. She is a genuine all-rounder as she has picked up nineteen wickets with her off-spin.
