While speculation mounted over the participation of Joe Root in the limited-overs’ series against India, the 26-year old was back home with his partner Carrie who had just given birth. Root had missed the practice sessions and the nets sessions at the Brabourne Stadium wherein England had sweat it out before their first practice match against India.

Root will, however, join up with the England squad in the upcoming series against India in Pune. This means that he will sit out of the side’s warm-up matches against the India ‘A’ side. Interestingly, the team will be captained by former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Ajinkya Rahane, the vice-captain will captain the side for the following warm-up match.

However, as far as the selection to the ODI side goes, Root is certainly available.

Kohli and de Villiers feature in Root’s All-Time XI

One of Root’s biggest competitors in cricket is Virat Kohli. The 28-year old Kohli and Root are generally compared quite a bit given their impeccable batting acumen as well as similar numbers. AB de Villiers, Kohli’s teammate also finds himself as a part of the side named by Root.

Former skipper Michael Vaughan and current Test match captain Alastair Cook fill in the opening roles with batting legend Sachin Tendulkar also making his entrance into the side. Jacques Kallis, arguably the greatest all-rounder of all time also finds his name on the list.

Andrew Flintoff shares the all-rounder’s role with Kallis while Kumar Sangakkara takes the wicketkeeping gloves. Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath find themselves a prominent part of the bowling attack while Mitchell Johnson completes the XI.

Joe Root’s All-Time XI: Alastair Cook(C), Michael Vaughan, Sachin Tendulkar, Jacques Kallis, Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Kumar Sangakkara (WK), Andrew Flintoff, Shane Warne, Mitchell Johson, Glenn McGrath.
